What are you guys seeing for wear-out timeline of the serpentine belt? I’m at 64000 miles and at the routine maint today, they report mine is getting shiny and may crack soon.

…it’s a dealer, I get they need the revenue. I have not looked at mine yet. Curious if 65k is where they start to get salty.

I was just looking into the same thing because I'm about to cross 100k next week. I was going to just go ahead and do mine because I don't know if it's the original.

Mine started squeaking a little after 60k miles but I think that was probably my fault - I may have got some coolant on it when I did an exchange.

Gates Belts says the serpentine belt is good for 8 years or 80K miles and the tensioner is good for two belt cycles. They also have a belt groove guage to determine if the grooves are too deep due to wear (think the opposite of how a tire wears).

I'll have to look into this. My wife's car just hit 60k and dodge says the timing chain needs to be done. I was hoping we could do hers and the Tundra could hold off for a few months unless it's absolutely needed.

Even if I have to do the belt on the Tundra, it’s $300. Not too bad.

I took my truck to the dealer for Service #1 and they told me that my belt was cracking and needed to be replaced. Truck has 92,000 kms on it. Was quoted just over $300 for parts and labor. Went to NAPA and bought a replacement belt for $60. My mechanic friend helped me replaced it. When we got the old belt off we found no signs of cracking or wear indicating that it should of been replaced. Since the new belt I purchased was already on, I kept the old one as a spare.

That’s kind of what I am suspicious I’ll find when I look.

I guess I did buy the Chilton’s for the 2.5gen, so I may just do it myself if needed.

In the FCA universe - 60k miles is an eternity.

I'm hitting 100k this summer so I'm doing all of the big maintenance items slowly but surely. Already got the trans fluid totally replaced, and the t-case and diffs have been done. Installed new shocks. Will do plugs and serp belt next. Probably will do coolant flush before next winter.

I know this is bad .... but I put 250000 on my factory belt. I drive a lot toyota used to service my truck reg they no longer do. Me and a buddy were talking one day he asked me the same question when do you change your belts. I looked at him with a blank face said dude I have never changed it. He about shit his pants. I was max on my tensioner changed all 3 idler pully , belt , tensioner, 3 months later new idler pully went out. All dayco parts.
