I have searched and read and read but still am not clear on the answer. I bout my brothers 2006 Tundra SR5 4WD recently. He bought it with 110K in it and it now has 174k. It has intermittently thrown a shift solenoid b code for the last 64k miles and did it the first time on his drive home from buying it. The truck has a hard shift from 2nd to 3rd. If you are really on it, it will chirp 3rd with 285s. So when he got it home after buying it he took it to Toyota and $1,200 later they had serviced the transmission and replaced solenoid b and still had the problem. Took it to our local independent shop (been doing transmissions for 70 odd years) and they again checked all the connections and flushed the transmission again (no metal brass etc in the pan). Still hard shift 2nd to 3rd. It has been doing this for 64k miles. Has anyone else had the same situation and did you ever figure out how to fix it? Truck runs fine and shifts smooth in all other scenarios but would be nice to fix it if there is something easy I can do.

I will have to pull the paperwork but the symptom has always been the same and I believe the code has as well. It threw the code earlier this week and it def said B. It is certainly the dealership could have done the wrong one but he did take it back after they did it and they looked at it again. Basically told him they would have to replace the transmission but again that was around 64k ago.

Definitely make sure the paperwork has the part number I referenced on it, because if they mistakenly replaced one of the other 6 solenoids, that would explain why the code never went away. People get those solenoids confused all the time.

It's either a faulty sensor straight out of the package (not likely) or something is going on internally.

Anyone know if there is a dipstick kit available for the transmission? I know they had them until 2004 wasn't sure if they changed the trans in 05 or not. Figured if I could add one of those then I could do a few trans pan drain and refills much easier than otherwise.

I had a similar problem on a Chevy but mine was caused by a bad mass airflow sensor.
