Hi everyone, I am new to the forum. But wanted to give a shout out to all buyers to stay far away from this dealership. Their bait and switch / scams are epic and legendary!!!!!

    My experience:

Called on a used 2018 Tundra CM Limited, was told everything about the vehicle and its options (JBL, sunroof, park assist, cross traffic alert, blind spot, premium package, etc) was listed on the website. I specifically asked about the add fees on top of the website price and was told there would be a $495 dealer / doc fee, that is it. I tell them I will bring a cashier check for half and my USAA financing for the other half, they say no problem. I fly 800 miles (CO to DFW) and another hour on the road, to get to the dealership.
    SCAM #1
I arrive and the truck does NOT have JBL, sunroof, park assist, cross traffic, blind spot, premium package! I ask why the website is not accurate, Ryan says they have been having problems with the website, yet they do NOT let anyone know????? I have the print out showing the listed equipment, no apology, just the statement "Well we wish the website was accurate" and that they have disclaimers all over the website. They are bait and switch all the way!
    SCAM #2
There is a pop up on their website, saying if you enter your info you will get a $500 off coupon for your car purchase. Ryan says it does not apply and tells me to read the disclaimers.
    SCAM #3
They pull out the "sell" sheet, which has over $2500 worth of ADDS ! $1400 for their "care package", $600 for window tint, $500 for some other fee PLUS the $500 dealer / doc fees!
    SCAM #4
Next they say they will not allow me to use my USAA financing, because its out of state, after they said it was fine on the phone. USAA is headquartered in San Antonio TX !!!!!! Now they say i can only finance with one of THEIR finance companies.
    SCAM #5
Ryan then proceeds to tell me how much they are "losing" ($4000) on the deal at that price. But they refuse to show me the auction buy sheet????

I am out about $700 in airline flights, cab ride and hotel (no big deal). But I would like everyone and anyones help in going on GOOGLE, YELP and FACEBOOK and posting 1 STAR rating to help warn others of this TERRIBLE dealership. I should have read all the GOOGLE reviews, as my story is nearly identical to the others (my fault).

Back to my search for a low mile Quicksand Tundra!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Some google reviews have the same experience. Call Toyota corporate. Maybe they will do something to help compensate you when/if you are still buying a Toyota.

I experienced the same thing with them. Very underhanded and I didn't buy there.

Most of the unofficial Toyota dealerships are like that. The best dealer I've found in that area is Freeman Toyota. The price they give in their website is the actual price. They don't try to tack on a 2000 dollar prep fee.

Well damn... that sucks. If you were local and not flying out, I would have recommended the Burleson Toyota, I personally know the GM now and they have always treated me right. I've had issues with other dealerships doing the bait &switch or smoke & mirrors but theirs has always seemed open an honest to me. Sorry for your experience.... hopefully you find what you are looking for!!

I was down to them and Freeman when I bought. Freeman was closer so I looked there first, Tommy Chau gave a great price right off, I got what I wanted for my trade and they beat the rate on my CU's money.

I appreciate all the great comments. This was the most bizarre experience I have ever had at a dealership. The Tundra was used, so I wonder if the "scams" are pulled on just the used car side. But like I said, I didnt do all my homework by looking on Google!

Well hopefully this thread helped steer some people away from Shottenkirk and their used car scams. They are worse than than the old 1980's used car lots on the main drag of some small town!

That dealership and the one in Weatherford used to be Durant Toyota. That is where I bought mine. Durant was the last non add-on BS dealer in DFW left from my experience. I have purchased a few vehicles from Durant and always felt I was treated right. Jerry sold his Toyota dealerships to Shottenkirk (they are out of Illinois). I'm saddened to see bullshit $2,500 add-ons. Family Toyota adds $995. Every other Toyota dealership in DFW does the same thing, but Vandergriff and Shottenkirk now seem the worst offenders. I wish corporate would crack down on the BS.

Freeman Toyota doesn't. My mom found a Camry she wanted online and actually went there and purchased it at the price listed. What a novel idea!

That is terrible; I am sorry to hear. Sucks that you’re out that much money and time with nothing to show for it. My buddy and neighbor is the GSM at a dealership in Maryland and he will take great care of you if you go through that trouble. Last count = 27 referrals (All bought from him) from me between friends, coworkers and acquaintances. Not one complaint and everyone said it was the best car buying Experience they have ever had

Actually those high mileage "we finance here" used car lots are in abundance here in Denver all along Colfax Avenue. The longest street in the US so ...there are are lot of those iffy used car lots.

I took my son there about a year ago to get a RAV4. They tried pulling that same crap. Luckily the salesman was the guy I had bought 2 from when it was Durant. We had agreed on the price and he dropped it to cover the BS they put on every deal. Went back twice since and he is no longer there. Didn’t do either deal because of the mandatory worthless warranty and add ons. They also lowballed my daughters trade in offering her 1500. We went to Denton to get her 4Runner and they gave her 4600 for her trade.

Thats cool. My biggest issue was I specifically asked them about any fees above the price listed on the internet and they out and out lied to me, just to get me in the dealership. Honestly, I would have paid a bit more for the truck, if they had just been upfront about it.

Thanks! For every bad dealership, there are 50 good ones like your neighbor! I have bought 4 cars out of state, a Lexus from Florida, a Tundra from Virginia, another Lexus from Las Vegas and a Suburban from Iowa, with ZERO issues from any of those dealerships. This is the first time I have been out and out lied to on the phone call and where Shottenkirks website out and out lied about the options on the truck. As of today, they STILL have not changed the website. They are blatant bait and switch.

For sure! Very familiar with the "We Finance Here" dealerships on Colfax and Broadway here in CO! I just never expected those same scams from a BIG Toyota dealership in TX. But like I said, it is my fault too. I didnt read all the Google reviews, which would have told me how they jack up the price of their used cars. Some people on Google said they added upward of $5000 to $6000 to the price!

Agreed! Its difficult to understand how Toyota corporate allows their dealerships to be so blatantly underhanded and slimey. And to do it over and over, year after year.
