Should I expect sag towing a 6k-6.5k trailer with a 2024 TRD Off-road?

I’m coming from a 2021 Ram Eco Diesel with air suspension. The ride was nice enough while towing, engine definitely could use more power. Towing a box of a 26’ Rockwood mini lite. I don’t want the lack of air suspension to be a big regret.

Should I expect sag, if so how much?

6-7k# trailer will have a tongue weight of at least 6-700 pounds. More likely it will be 750-900#. Yes. You will have compression of the suspension carrying that much weight. Yes, it will likely have the rear end lower than the front. The TRD OR models have around 2” or so of rake like most pickups to accommodate some weight. If you level the truck it will sag with even a couple hundred pounds in it. The proper way to deal with this is a weight distribution hitch. It will take some of the weight from the rear axle and distribute it to the front axle and some back to the trailer axles. No need for airbags for that trailer with a properly adjusted WDH.

exactly what I wanted to hear. Already have the weight distribution hitch, just afraid of the OR package being a mistake for towing.

TRD Pro would be a less than ideal choice. TRD OR will be just fine.

Like @KNABORES said, the TRD OR package will be just fine. I'm not certain on the spring changes for 22+ models, but I recall the gen 2 TRD OR package having a slightly stiffer spring as shown by the slightly higher ride height. The valving in the shock absorbers is better as well, IMO. My gen 2 has the TRD OR package and it works great for towing in stock form, and phenomenally well with a few suspension enhancements.

From what I gather, the coil sprung suspension sags a little more than the 2nd gen leaf spring setup, so a WD will definitely help. There are a few threads here of folks having some issues gettin the WD hitch setup correctly, but the simplest indicator is to look at the front suspension before hitching up the trailer, then comparing it to after hitching it up. The WD hitch should restore all of the weight back to the front axle - and hopefully a little more. That's what a weight (re)distribution hitch does - it redistributes the weight from the rear axle back to the trailer axles and forward to the front axle. Less weight on the rear axle makes for less sag; restoring at least the same amount of weigh to the front axle that was removed when hitching up (the hitch behind the rear axles essentially uses the frame and rear axle as a cantilever/pivot point to remove weight off the front axle) makes for better steering, stability, and confidence. So simply measure the front fender height to hub center before and after hitching up, then adjust the WD hitch accordingly.

Our sequoia is coil sprung in the rear and we tow a 6-7k trailer with it. We still get 1.5-2" of sag in the rear, but the front axle doesn't lift at all. I still need to adjust the hitch a little as it was setup for my tundra before we added the sequoia to the fleet, but it's still able to restore weight to the front axle.

Also, don't forget to add a few PSI to the tires when towing; most add 5 psi, added 10 psi+ when I was rolling on p rated tires.

To be fair, my Tundra is a 2.5 gen so it doesn't really fit your question, but it is a TRD OR model and I tow a 26' MiniLite (well, actually a MicroLite but they are the same thing). I use a WDH. I do get some compression in the rear, but it basically levels out the truck so I'm cool with it.

Same, mine is a '19 but TRD OR.

My TT is only 5,500 lbs. but I tow pretty tongue heavy, probably 750-800 lbs. most of the time w/full fresh and a bunch of stuff in the front pass through. Usually some weight in the truck bed too. gen, firepit, etc.

Andersen WDH and the rake levels out nicely. Pics hitched and unhitched for comparison.

    Lots of stuff!
Towing with a TRD OR will be nice with all the power. Stopping is pretty good as well and using the Tow Modes helps too on some steep descents.

The rear is going to squat more than the previous leaf sprung Tundras. If you don’t do any lifts or levels you should be able to balance the weight out with a good WDH and have a minimal amount of squat.

I did a front 1.75” level and then put the trailer on and was wondering why I had so much squat. Since then I added a 1” rear spacer and it sits great now with and without the trailer.

Just take your time setting up the WDH and this may need a few sessions to dial it in.

I have a '22 Crewmax w/ the 6.5' bed and TRD Off-Road package. My tongue weight is 700 lbs +/- 25lbs depending on loading and the trucks tows perfectly fine. In fact it is dead level when using my WDH. I do have AirLift Ultimate 5000 bags and an on-board compressor but I rarely use them when towing, and not with the WDH. Very heavy loads in the bed is where the air bags come in play, at least for my case.

The key is setting up your WDH properly. If you're getting excessive squat, it is because of an improper setup with the WDH, or lack of.

I am towing 6k dry, and a bit more than 7k loaded with a Sequoia and suspension air bags. This is also around 900 lbs of tongue weight, I’m guessing (hoping). I think you will not be happy without air bags or very stiff springs.

There will be some sagging. I also had the bed loaded with 2 kids bikes, a 55lb generator, 2 chairs and a table.
