Has anyone used lumber in the bed slots in the 2022? I noticed that the slots are tapered and 2x lumber won't slide all the way down. Any idea what the "correct" way to use these is?

Hmmm. I'll have to look at mine. I've a scrap 2x6 laying around the I was going to cut to length. I just hadn't got around to it yet. I assumed that I might have to plane the ends down slightly, figuring I would lose some clearance due to the spray-in bed liner.

From memory - there was a video with the chief engineer - Mike something - there should be numbers on those slots that correspond to the angle you need to cut a 2x6 to fit snugly in the slots.

There is a 6 degree cut on each side of a 2x8, or RTFM by going to page 428.

Just taper your cut a little. I have 2x6 in my bed. I love those cut outs. I jus wish there was some kind of storage in the sides.

I agree on that. Seems like a waste of space to not have the small bed boxes anymore. They eliminated most (or all?) of them on the new Tacos and never incorporated them on the new Tundra composite bed. I used to keep all of my ratchet straps & tie downs in them when I had my Taco.

I agree. Coming from a Taco, I was surprised to see no side storage boxes in the bed. I used them for all sorts of stuff. Seems like an easy add for a refresh so they'll have another 'improvement'.

haha. Yup! Toyota will wait and add them to the 3.5 Gen trucks as an "improvement" to justify a higher MSRP.

In this they explain why it's tapered. Because of the molding process.
