This lame smashed into my truck and the car parked next to me.. He doesn’t have insurance, and the van isn’t even registered to him.. Gah!! So what do you guys think? Repair, or totaled? Looks like the front leaf spring mount is bent, but can’t tell if the frame is bent. The bed and the cab are misaligned by almost 2”.
The auto body shop is supposed to give an estimate tomorrow or Wednesday. They sound like they want to repair it. New bed side, cutting off the back half of my cab and putting in a new piece.. I’m not sure if I should be pushing for a full replacement, or just sit back and let them do whatever they want? 11A42F57-3F94-4936-B11E-A8722D20A046.jpg C467FE35-0159-4636-B730-DD4672570939.jpg D48F8318-1B1E-445D-9F30-1FC5D0EEB913.jpg 7BB7A11F-9A5E-407D-9061-99794CC6FFE0.jpg

    Sorry to hear about this!!!

I’m no expert, but it doesn’t look that bad to me. It’s going to be expensive, but repairable.

    That sucks.
Can you sue the driver and the owner of the vehicle?

    People suck man!
In your shoes, I would want that totaled out. The cab is jacked up, and the C pillar will probably not be the same.

That’s what I’m worried about too. I have been absolutely clear with the body shop and the insurance company that I won’t accept it if it’s anything less than perfect.

I don’t fully know what I can do yet, I probably have to roll with whatever the insurance company decides, and take him to small claims court for the incidental expenses.

Had a similar accident. I was t boned. They will repair it more than likely. I didn't trust the truck afterwards, traded it in on my current truck. Pics for referenceIMG_20181126_074943195.jpg IMG_20181126_075002220.jpg

My insurance had a policy for uninsured motorist. Deductible was only $100 vs full deductible. Also once insurance collected from the other motorist, I got the deductible back. But you need to check and see if you'll get diminished value compensation as well. Your truck after an accident isn't worth as much as it was prior to the accident.

It didn't. Door didn't feel right closing it. Felt like I was driving cockeyed, like it was not straight anymore.

Sounds killer! I’m not sure how much leverage I have with the insurance company to call it totaled or not?

Sorry to read this. Uninsured motorists suck. Having to pay insurance premiums for uninsured motorists sucks. If we could sue the state that allowed an uninsured motorist to cause damage, maybe change can happen.

People who abide by rules and suffer damages from people who don’t pisses me off.

Shit happens, if the shop you chose can’t fix it correctly (this is an easy fix) find another. I just finished this a week or so ago. All doors opened and closed as they should and I even moved the rear hatch to make it fit the other side better.

Your truck looks like it did take a good hit in the tire, was a 4 wheel alignment preformed with a printout provided to you? There are lots of shops that will just say “na it’s good”. Those shops make it very hard on shops like mine, we go above and beyond for every repair we make.

Everyone please remember you can take your vehicle where you want to get it repaired. I see lots of insurance “steering”, they can not force you to go to “their shop”. More than likely their shop sucks.

OUCH! This stuff sucks. Bad enough to have your rig involved in an accident, but even worse when it's a deadbeat that does it! On the bright side, at least it wasn't a hit and run.

It typically shouldn't. My previous vehicle was totaled by an uninsured motorist in September. I am no expert but my dad owns his own insurance company. I have been told by every person in that insurance company (not my dad's) and from my dad that my rates will not go up .

On a side rant, uninsured motorist laws vary from state to state. I live in Ohio which has probably the worst laws as it pertains to car insurance. Most states make you show proof of insurance when you register your vehicle, but in Ohio they just ask you if you do and you say yes.

The worst part of being hit by an uninsured motorist is that YOU are responsible for all the hassle and pain in the ass. I have ambulance bills, hospital bills, and a bunch of other shit that the other person should have to worry about filing calling about. It sucks. I'm still working through all of it.

If you can find a get paid after attorney, sue the shit out of 'em. Statutes of limitations give you time to think about it.
