So this is considered a Off Road Skid Plate?

I have a 2023 TRD Off Road Limited 4x4 crew max. My sticker says skid plate. Not TRD skid plate. I'm surprised at how little the skid plate covers/protects.

I paid some $450 for the Toyota TRD skid plate as an option added at the factory (or port, forgot which). But yea, if you don't have the TRD skid plate, all you get is this wimpy thing.

The TRD one extends further back correct? Just wondering why so small.

What's the cheapest source for the TRD one? Or would anyone suggest RCI or Talon instead?

I have RCI skid plates and catalytic guards in steel. I love their products…easy to install and I received them in about 4 weeks.

Get the RCI. I have the TRD skid plate and I'm selling it & replacing with RCI. The TRD skid doesn't have maintenance access panels, which is frustrating. I'm 24k miles into ownership and starting my own maintenance. Dropping the skid plate every time I have to do an oil change is ridiculous. Save yourself the hassle and get the RCI...or ANY skid plate with access panels. RCI just happens to be the cheapest, I believe.

Not a stupid question. I thought about it myself.

In theory: You could cut panels into it, weld captive nuts on the plate, fabricate & weld some brackets on the panels, and use fasteners to secure the panels so you could take them on/off easily.

Or, I could sell my skid for ~$100-$150 and then only be ~$250 into pocket for the RCI plate. :spending:

Ehh. I don’t know how I’d feel leaving holes in the skid. You’d need 2: Filter and drain plug. Knowing my luck, the filer access hole left open on the approach side (the side that makes first contact and gets the most abuse) would hang on something.

Whoa, is that a hybrid or did they start taking the active Aero dam off of the Limited TRD OR packages? My 2022 has it.

Also, that skid plate is really tough

Not a hybrid. 2023 crew max limited 4x4 off road package.

Bought brand new. No automatic air dam on it.

RCI for sure over the TRD one. The TRD is aluminum I believe, so if you plan on using it you'll have to deal with a dented skid plate under there. I have full RCI skids and sliders and they are amazing.

    Lots of stuff!
This plastic skid plate is in keeping with the TRD Offroad Features, Have a look at the tires that we get in the TRD package. This skid plate matches those quite well! ;)

I got my Limited TRD a year ago in February. Drove it home and couldn't even back into my driveway with maybe a 3 degree slope because it had a little ice on it. They're horrible. Had them off at 500 miles for new ones lol.

    Mine has the 20” wildpeaks.
Honestly I’d rather have the 18”
    Any issue with swapping?
I need to find someone who wants to trade.

Yep that's what mine came with. The actual Wildpeak AT's are fantastic tires, whatever version comes stock on the Tundra is not that same tire lol. Shouldn't have any issues swapping. I'm on 17's with 37's now.

Same plate on my 23 sequoia sr5 trd off-road. I was like what the hell is this. Was expecting a trd one or at least a look alike. I had the trd skid on my 17 4runner and it was a pain to drop the skid every time. The thing is pretty heavy, will be even more heavier due to the larger size.

Mine has one access panel. Drain side has a notch cut into it. 00C52799-5BE1-4D85-B247-68C4AC4E4896.jpg

We have a new version coming out soon, that will have a door to get to the oil filter and a hole one that lets you get to the oil drain plug in the bottom. They are currently on the laser, and we hope to get them back in stock very soon. My wife and I had a big meeting on a few things early this week, so she's tracking that stuff better, and holding me accountable for getting it done.

Looking at the pictures, it looks like our engine plate is much wider, offering more coverage on the bottom area. It will also work with the RC 3.5" lift that drops the diff some.
