    Hey all,

I currently have the LoPro Truxedo on my Crewmax. I have no issues with it and like the low profile. However, I have two dogs I want to have ride in the back when needed. I don’t want to get a hard shell camper because I want to be able to utilize the rear window when it’s nice and the camper shell would block it.

Does anyone know if the soft toppers can be used with the truxedo or if there is another option I’m not aware of?

Soft topper can't be used with anything else.
There is a company that make a tonneau cover that turns into a soft shell topper.

Let me see if I can find it.

I’d just ditch the tonneau and go with a Softopper. I loved mine.

I really want the capability of both tho. Tonneau cover for keeping my things safe and dry while being low profile, and then a soft topper for larger items or the dogs.

So I ordered the Fas-Top travel package today. Should be in on Thursday and on the truck Friday. I’ll let y’all know what I think.

Finished installing my Fas-Top Traveler Package tonneau/soft top this morning. Other than missing the sling and waiting on the mesh rear window, it’s all set!

I did have to modify the soft top frame as two of the snap together pieces weren’t lining up perfectly.

So far I’m really liking it. Will give me the ability to take my dogs in the back when I need to, but use the tonneau cover most of the time to keep things dry while keeping the bed area low profile and take advantage of rolling down the rear window.

I had a soft topper with pet screen for my dogs and it didn't work too well. There was zero air flow inside the soft topper and because it was black it got super hot inside if the sun was out. I ended up selling it and getting a cap which works much better.

This has a front window that can be unzipped and rolled up. Same for the back.
I get it may get hot, but this will be for taking them to the vet or park for short drives. We’ll see how it does but at least this gives me the option to do both.

I had a hard camper on my Tacoma and did great for the dogs, but I want to take advantage of the rear window in the Crewmax and a hard camper shell would block that.

So did mine. The air flow when driving goes over the top and doesn't go into the front window when unzipped. Give it a shot, just letting you know in my experience it didn't work well for dogs.

Appreciate the comments and your experience. Hopefully it works out well enough. I had the Truxedo soft tonneau cover in there before, but wanted something that could do both. We’ll see but I hope it will serve my purposes well enough.

So I got to use it this past Friday and it worked great! Put it up and took my dog to a car meet/event at a local brewery where dogs were welcomed. I removed the front plastic window, installed the mesh rear window and rolled down the back window of the truck to let as much air through as possible.

came back home that night and converted back to a tonneau cover and been that way since.

exactly what I was looking for!

It's been a few months. Any issues with it? HOw's it holding up?

As I suspected, I haven’t used the soft topper much. It’s cold out and haven’t really taken the dogs out anywhere. The one time I did it was so cold I just put them in the back seat. So the topper has stayed stored under the tonneau cover.

As for the tonneau cover, it’s held up extremely well. We had some wet heavy snow here a few weeks ago and the cover held up to 9”.

I have zero complaints with this set up and it’s doing exactly what I want. Staying under the tonneau cover until I do need it.

Yeah I'm thinking about changing the setup. I like the security of my shell, limited as it is, but I often need things that justify removing it and it's a pain in the ass due to no storage area around my house. But also considering getting rid of the decked system although it's really handy but definitely takes away a lot fo bed use.

I used to run a converter and run a fan through the back window for my dog when I had a soft topper. Used foam to make a decent seal. was plenty cool back there with ac on
