I put my fob inside a waterproof case. It is meant for a Samsung smartag2 but works perfectly with some trimming around the chip and battery. I was sick of accidentally hitting the tailgate release with the fob inside my pocket. The case doesn't have any buttons so nothing can be pressed (I use proximity and the app on my phone/watch to lock, unlock and remote start my truck anyways).

I hid the metal key under my truck in case the battery dies as the key doesn't fit inside the case. As an added bonus, the case is now a little smaller than the factory fob. Also, it has screws to hold it together so it shouldn't bust into pieces if you drop it. For $10, it's a cool mod and the waterproofing is good insurance if someone pushes you into the pool or you drop them at the lake or beach (several other scenarios of course).

Let's see what you had to do to the actual insert to make it fit.

I took the fob apart used an exacto knife and shaved off the tail gate knob.
It's a convenient option I personally think it's pretty damn cool, but it doesn't serve a function for my needs, honesty I'm in fear of it accidentally opening on someone's front end,a wall my garage ect...

Had the dealer disable this feature a while back.

You can also have the dealer change the setting to double press. I have had no issues since with accidental opening. The setting can also be changed with TechStream or any other similar OBDII device.

    I am going to have to have the dealer disable this feature from my remote. I am paranoid as well, when;
    • my truck is in the garage either against the wall or against the garage door
    • I have a short tongue trailer and the jack would crash into the tailgate
    • I have my bike rack installed in my hitch
Not sure why they don't have a selection on the dash or in the menus somewhere to disable.

I, too, have a few trailers that would cause damage if the tailgate was accidentally opened.

I don't recall, does Carista allow you to disable the FOB button?

I don't think Carista does it.

Just change the settings and turn it off or double click like others had said, vs fumbling with a case etc...

Dealerships will do this for free if you are nice as part of servicing for your next oil change.

A picture of the inside as requested. It's very snug and doesn't rattle at all. You can see the red o-ring on the inside to provide the waterproof protection. I've pressed down on the case very hard and none of the buttons get pressed. It's been a great solution so far.

Seems like a solution looking for a problem to me.

I think I'll just have the dealership disable the tailgate button on my FOBs, and call it a day.

Glad it's working for you, though.

Thanks, for some reason I thought it was considerably smaller that the original fob. I've personally never had a concern that I would hit the tailgate button, before I even took delivery of my truck I bought this fob cover from Amazon.
    https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0CL2HS2L1?ie=UTF8&th=1
It's a tough push to get the buttons to react so I don't have any concern of accidentally releasing the tailgate.

I have a XTool D8BT scan tool that works great and allows all the same settings that TechStream offers.

These are the feature settings I had the dealer adjust at delivery.
