2014 Tundra 4.6l does not like going in and out of 4wd, after using 4wd momentarily to get out of snow the night before I was driving onto the highway in 2wd and noticed a sound that sounded like cards in bicycle spokes from the front drivers side wheel well. I assumed it was brakes and took the tire off to see if the brakes were rubbing and it looked like they could’ve been. I put the tire back on and planned on doing brakes but had to take the vehicle out today. The noise completely went away until I put the truck back into 4wd to get out of a steep snowy driveway. Once I hit ~10mph the sound came back and has not gone away. Not sure if anyone has ran into this problem but was looking for feedback before taking it to the dealership to see if it was a simple fix. Truck is completely stock with road tires and no lift. (Edit) Should have mentioned when I had the tire off I rotated it and would get the noise only at one part during the rotation.

May be a CV joint going out or a wheel bearing.

This JUST happened to my 2007. Advice here was that it was one of 2 things. Front U joint, or if you can believe it, there is a sticker that is located on the drive shaft, and it has come loose and is causing the noise when you engage the 4wd. Believe it or not, my truck went in and out of 4wd with no problems, ran fine, and my mechanic found that the sticker had indeed come loose and was causing the noise. Once he removed it, the truck ran fine and no more noise. I have 252,000 on my truck, and just about fell over when he told me what the problem was. I couldn't believe it would happen to a truck with so many miles on it. Hope this helps. This just happened last week.

I couldn't believe it when that was your solution. Crazy simple, crazy lucky. :)
