I've searched the forum till my eyes are crossed, and I can't find mention of a bulb # or source for my particular lighter bulb. Many know this is not a push in type bulb...but a solder jobby. I'd replaced several other interior bulbs in my truck, but from my forum search had decided not to mess with my dash bulbs for this(solder type)reason. Rewind to start of my(Quarantine)week with lower dash removal because of my sliding cupholder problem...would not push into dash completely. After finally removing the dash mounted receiver end, I found 1 of the 2 plastic spring loaded trips which allow the slider portion to fully seat back into the receiver, had become dislodged and a small part missing. So I removed the broken left side trip, sprayed inside the receiver with dry silicone spray, and all is well there. Then while I was in that deep I decided to delete the AC ON during defrost mode function which I also tripped over during my searching for the cupholder issue. That one worked like a charm and am anxious to try it out in real time. Then of course while I had the dash out and in my hands, that damn cig bulb was staring me in the face. I talked myself into it being a push type bulb even after reading about the 05 dash bulbs. It had to be push type right?...was only inches away from the push type ash tray bulb I had already replaced. You prob can tell how that job ended. So 2 out of 3 accomplished, and a long winded question about a bulb number and source. I added a few pics of my broken/removed cup holder part and the lighter socket and ash tray harness Thanks

Check my build page for pics on how I replaced that bulb using a T-5 custom modified and did it without removing the cig lighter.

Just got on your build page tonite PHM. I like your style trying to stay OEM as much as possible. Probably take me awhile getting to the bulb fix...I'm too busy with your other fixs. Thank you sir!

    Thank you.

I just shaved the T5 down and bent the prongs to fit. Those original prongs on your bulb base will slide out and the T5 will slip in and then both become tension fit when slid back into the base holder.

So looks like the Superbright led bulb I have pictured(same bulb that I used for the ash tray application)will not work for this app? I'll need to order a T5 that has a pronged base, trim if necessary, extend and bend bulb prongs to contact my socket prongs when I press fit new led into socket...correct? Also thought about trying to do the old aluminum foil trick after reworking my pictured Superbright bulb. That would have really been a cob job though lol.

You’ll need to back the bulb off of the reflector once you go for insertion as the shroud is too shallow. I used Gorilla Tape to attach the bulb base to the top of the cig assy. A little experimenting helps determine proper depth.

Unless you can filet those wires open like I did on the T5?

I ordered a bag of 10 bulbs by Partsham.

Only reason I did the bulb filet was because I had the original bulb out after my third attempt over a years time. Watched a video of a guy who removed the cig lighter like you and saw how he twisted the bulb socket off. Once I saw that key move, I knew I could do the job without cig removal. Had a few extra T5’s around from Dash Conversion so practiced on one or two. A little out of the box thinking took place.

1 hour job versus 8 hours cig remove and possible mangle. Still risky, but less time.
