Hello, new member/owner here. I just bought a 2005 Tundra Access Cab SR5 TRD Off Road. I've been doing a lot of reading the last few days, but haven't found an answer to my question. For those of you who have installed the Scion radio into your 05-06 Access Cab, how did you get the plug for the speaker wires up front to plug into the back of the Scion radio? I've been looking at pictures of the back of the Scion and my radio and the one connection isn't the same. I read that for the earlier models that the amp was in the dash under the radio, so you could just unplug the speakers from the amp (effectively bypassing it) and plug them into the Scion radio. But, since my amp is in the back how do I accomplish that? Can you just unhook them and the wires are long enough to run to the front or did you have to make a harness to connect them? Thanks much.

So few companies make amplifier bypass harnesses that will allow you to bypass the amplifier in the back of the cab, but depending on what scion radio you have you will likely have less power going to the speakers in your truck as it will almost certainly be less powerful than your factory amp.

Forgive me, I'm not familiar with this particular mod, is it common? What year and model Scion is the radio from? With a few more details I could definitely point you in the right direction.

It seems to be fairly common. The one I'm getting is from a 2011, I believe. It's NOS. They're actually made by Pioneer and say Pioneer on the front. Rating is 160 watts. I'm not sure if that's peak or RMS. Either way it's probably a good bit more than my factory non-JBL amp. If you do a google search on Scion radio and Tundra, you'll find some threads that talk about different models of them. The nice thing is that they look and fit like stock (which they are),but have some features of aftermarket radios plus a lot more wattage than the stock Tundra radio. The one I'm getting has a USB port and can play MP3 files. I thought about getting aftermarket, but I got this one for $50, so it was hard to pass up. It's supposed to be plug and play with existing wiring, but I had read some things about the rear amp interface that made me think it might not be. I guess I'll find out when it gets here. If it won't work, I'll probably go aftermarket with Crutchfield as they include the amp bypass adapter free with radio purchase, since I just need the basic kit without the steering wheel control adapter. I figured for $50 vice $300, if it doesn't fit, I can probably resell it for what I paid.
