I recently purchased a 2017 Tundra 1794 crewmax preowned from a Honda dealership. Truck has 65k miles and had spent most of its life in canada before coming down to the states. Everything on the truck appeared stock, stock suspension, stock wheels and stock tire size are correct to the truck. But it seems to be a percentage off on the speedometer. If i'm going 60mph according to the truck my phone gps mph is about 52mph. If i go 90mph on the speedo I'm really going about 80mph. The truck only has an aftermarket remote start, I even pulled the cluster out to see if it had one of those hypertech speedo signal modifiers and didn't see anything obvious.

Do these trucks have a history of having speedo/VSS related issues? Or did this truck likely have larger tires and i'm was somehow calibrated to those?

    Thanks,

    Matt

after watching the install video for the speedo calibrator I believe there is one installed, the back of my cluster has all black wires going into it from an extension harness, which i believe the oem toyota cluster wires are individually colored. May have just found my issue after posting this.

As far as I know the only way to calibrate the speedo is with an inline device such as the Hypertech. Try a couple of different GPS apps to what is shows. Some update faster than others. A straight and flat stretch with cruise set will give a good reading. I used Waze and my radar detector when I was calibrating mine.

Now look for a USB cable dangling from it.

Hi, and welcome! Is it a Canadian truck, so the odometer is in km instead of mph?

The difference would be alot larger. 90 km is about 55 mph.

Perhaps a poorly converted Canadian truck. I hear the two clusters are not directly interchangeable for some reason.
