Bought this in Nov. 2019 brand new but never noticed this button before until I was messing with the OBD2 port and saw it. It does not look factory but truck was bought new from Earnhardt Toyota in Mesa, AZ. Any idea what it is? Pics should show location but it is right by the hood release handle by your left leg. I have included several pics some with the cover on and some with cover off. Pushing the button seems to do nothing. I looked up the Part# on the small cover and got nowhere. The Toyota manual showed nothing here as well. Thanks for any assistance.

Damn... no idea. Looks like a wire coming out of it, did you trace the wire? Almost looks like some sort of tracking device that lenders put on.

SOB - I was really looking for a quick & easy response but not I'm with you Glowblue and need to start tracing the wire. The tracking device seems logical except for the button.

    It’s a dealer installed alarm.

Some tracking devices include a panic button. I have one on mine, from Guidepoint Systems. Was on the truck when I bought it used. Since the equipment was already on the truck, I transferred the registration with Guidepont Systems to my name and opted for their free service, which includes only GPS tracking if I call them and report the truck stolen. They find it and contact law enforcement. The panic button will also cause them to alert the authorities. Their paid services include constant tracking to keep an eye on the truck if your kid's driving it, etc.

    The Dirty T ( ^_^)_且

Exactly, also known as a dealer profit padder. Dealers buy these for something like $40, install them on every vehicle on the lot and then try to sell/sneak them in at the finance stage for some stupid amount like $650. They do it on all vehicles on the lot, even ones like the Tundra that come with a factory alarm just to make more money.

2 problems (besides ripping people off) is that they drill holes in your brand new vehicle's interior to mount the stupid thing and they use those cheap scotch locks connectors that slice those already tiny, thin wires under the dash to install it, possibly causing issues down the road.

The most common ones used to be called KARR Alarms. My 2014 had one on it when I bought it new and I made them put it in the contract that they would remove that little POS device and give me a brand new interior panel to replace the one they drilled 2 holes into to install it.

Some good suggestions that it’s a dealer alarm add on. Check your invoice @737fixer - if nothing on there gives you a clue call the dealer.

Is the green item a light or a button?
