Hi All. I've got a (refundable) deposit on a white '23 SR5 with the TRD Sport premium package, due 12/7. Paying MSRP from a local dealer I like & trust. Otherwise well equipped. I like the color matched handles & trim on the Sport but really want the slightly lifted & level look & feel of the Off Road. 99+% of my driving is on the road, and the times I go off road can easily be handled by the standard 4WD. Should I go through with the Sport & then install the TRD 3" lift & level kit? Or wait for an Off Road version & live with the chrome? This one is equipped with almost every option, pretty much exactly what I was looking for.
I can't stand the 'Tundra Stinkbug Look' of the standard models with the slightly nose-low stance. Last one I had was a '19 TRD Pro and I LOVED the firm ride it had in corners as well as the way to looked. But from what I've read on the forums, the Sport package handles pretty well on the road.
    Thoughts?
Also, this will be the third Tundra that I've installed the ********* stereo upgrade, this time I'll upload the install pics & vids. Finally.

It's all subjective and entirely up to you. It comes down to what YOU want.

If you're not a big off road person and care more about looks...go with the Sport. If you're big into off roading...go with the TRD OR package. Period.

Side note: When I say "off roading", I don't mean you need 4WD for winter time to just handle snow on the roads. I'm talking about hitting trails and getting out away from people.

    My final thoughts:
    • If it's just about hating the chrome on the TRD OR: It's much easier to change the looks of a TRD Off Road than it is to change the capability of the TRD Sport.
    • You can easily change the chrome mustache, door handles, etc of the TRD Off Road to color matched pieces if you hate the chrome that bad.
    • You can't add MTS & Crawl Control to a non-Off Road package without a TON of work and money. (there's a thread about this already). The rear locker is a different matter, as well.
If you're serious enough about off roading to spend $4k on the TRD 3" Suspension lift, it sounds like you should wait for a comparably equipped TRD OR truck. Otherwise, save your $4k and spend just $700 - $900 for a 3" preload lift and get the Sport model.

    My 2 cents.

I got the TRD Sport because I like the looks, worst places I go over are dirt roads, and I don't need off-road goodies.

FYI, it seems that there is a typo in the document regarding what TRD 3" lift doesn't work with, and it seems that TRD Sport models are not compatible with the lift. I don't think that we still know what the reason behind it is, but if you want to lift it, I'd go with TRD OR for the rear locker alone.

Thanks Musashi, I saw that thread. I'd be happy with a leveling kit just to keep the nose from pointing down. Dunno why it bugs me. And for whatever reason, the Sport packages are 100 to 1 to the Off Road ones in this area. Most of the Tundras here are presold, such are the times..

I really enjoy my trd sport premium. The ride is much more planted than the standard sr5 and the color matched parts are great. Even the door handles make a huge difference in a good way. It is still highly capable, just up to the point of needing a locker, though. I’m very happy with my purchase and wouldn’t trade it for a trd off road. If I would have bought an OR, I would have hated the chrome and spent many hundreds or thousands to delete it and would have used the off road goodies like once a year. I believe the value of the trd sport premium package is excellent!

Go with the Sport if you don't like chrome. Add a leveling or small lift and you have exactly what you want.
I did that with my 2018 Sport.
My 2022 I also didn't want chrome so I ended up going with the XP package which has color matched grill surround and blacked out badges; no chrome anywhere.

I love my SR5 TRD Sport Premium. It is the best looking trim package if you don't like chrome. My only concern going in was Softex instead of leather. They are good in terms of comfort and so far no issues with hot/cold worse than leather. For me the higher models with higher prices did not have options or features that were worth it for me.

    Hey Fatone!

I agree the sports package is a beauty! What color did you get?

Did you order yours in Canada? I seem to have a hard time finding a dealer

I am in the states so can't help you on the availability in Canada.

I have Army Green which was my #1 choice.

No option for premium sport package in Canada. Only the standard sport with 8inch screen, cloth seats, & no sunroof.

After ordering a MGM SR5 in April 2022, the dealer reached out with a couple allocation options for TRD sports in Black or MGM. (BC, Canada). Finally going to take delivery first week of March. Nearly 11mths of wait.
