SR5 upgrades closest to TRD Pro

The wife and I are finally financially able to pull the trigger on a new 2021 Tundra. I personally would like to grab the TRD Pro, but all of the interest rates are much higher on the TRD Pro than the SR5. Is there a performance package on the SR5 that brings the suspension to the same class as the TRD Pro?

We live up in the Seattle Area but will be flying down to Texas in late December where we may be able to get better interest rates on the TRD Pro. If we can save some money on interest rate and a cheaper Tundra (SR5) I would probably be looking at purchasing an R-Pod camper. I would like not to compromise the ride of the vehicle though which I hear is much nicer in the TRD Pro.

    Thank you for reading!
    Cheers

TRD Pro suspension is only available on the TRD Pro. To add after purchase, you would have to get a dealer to order it for you using a TRD Pro VIN.

Short answer is no. The TRD offroad package is closest, adds off road tuned shocks, 18 inch wheels, skid plates. However, there are coilovers out there that will give you the 2 or so inches of lift and ride great.

One thing to know about the Pro if you tow- they sit level, are 2 inches higher than a typical tundra up front and have no rake. So, when you tow with one, you will have the typical 1-2 inches of towing squat in the rear as with all truck. But the Pro, sitting level, will tow nose high. The typical tundras are a couple inches higher in the rear to compensate for load and towing.

I wonder if raising the rear 1.5" on the TRD Pro would help compensate for the lowered tow end.

Sure, a shackle or block in the rear will bring back some rake. Some also use airbags to handle the squat.

Buy the SR5 package you like the looks of, then get an aftermarket Fox/King/ADS suspension. Save money overall, and get arguably a better performing suspension that will last the life of the truck.

Only reason to buy the Pro i would think is because of the Bed stamp and the Seats. Everything else is replaceable. And like others have said you can upgrade for much cheaper.

I built a “Poor mans TRD Pro”, I bought a base model SR DC and upgraded suspension, grill, lights, etc. to get it close to a Pro for about $20k less! I have a 2.5” level up front and 1.5” shackles - it has exactly 1” of rake to help the squat when loaded down.

I’d start with a trd sports package because it gives you body matches bumpers, as well as trd sways front and back.

Then black out the badges, add a Toytec lift, RCI front skid(s), and a DD system and it's the tundras.com modified Sport Pro.

I bought the 2020 Tundra with the SR5 Upgrade package along with the TRD Sport package. I promptly ditched the 20" wheels for 18's and upgraded to 5100's then to Kings. Added the Icon expansion leaf pack in back to get me the additional 1 1/2" rake I needed when carrying my 2 dirt bikes.

I added TRD Pro suspension to my 2020 Tundra SR5 TSS. Cost about $2500 for parts and $700 labor at a Toyota dealership.

they discontinued the kit that cost around $2500. Now, if you are able to piece it together, the front coilovers, rear shocks, and speed sensor mount will cost you $3100+ before shipping.

I ordered the fronts from an online dealer a couple weeks ago, and they requested my VIN saying the parts are on “manual release” from Toyota. I must show I have a vehicle that originally had those parts from the factory. I just told them I don’t have a Pro, and they canceled my order.

At this point and for what I want to do, there are better options out there. I’m waiting for Black Friday deals.

Mine is just an SR5 with leather package, 3" ready-lift and 35" tires. It rides like a creampuff.
I didn't need $4000 worth of shocks to drive on the pavement 99.9% of the time.

I say go with the pro if you can. I like the newer BBS rim, interior and exhaust. Either way make sure you go LED headlights. Suspension is nice but as others have said that’s a benefit depending on use. Resale in the PNW for the pro is something to consider as well.

What exactly is the reason that the TRD Pro and the SR5 have such wildly different interest rates? It seems like they are the same truck, one with nice mods on it.

That stinks. I ordered my TRD Pro suspension last month from Elmhurst Toyota as a full OEM kit for $2626.39 and paid the local dealership $690.00 to install. Sorry, I was a bit off on the cost, but the higher number included shipping and tax. They never asked for my VIN.

I'm a loan officer and have no idea what you're talking about. Go to a credit union, get pre-approved. They don't give a shit if it's a Pro or a Honda fit. Collateral has 2 rate categories, new and used. Other than that there are rate tiers for length of time financed, and FICO, but the model is never a determining factor.
