Looking at the ss6 fog lights to upgrade from the factory, see a few installs. Now that the honeymoon is over - are they a significant improvement? Would you purchase again?

No regrets on my amber SS6. They work so well in inclement weather or just plain night driving. I would definitley purchase them again. I'm also in a highly populated deer area. I tend to turn them off when im behind someone or if someone is coming the other way.

I am interested in the exact same question. Giving the factory ones a chance first but experience has show that bright yellow/amber fogs are a huge asset in fog and snow (for seeing and being seen). So SS6...

I presume that means you think they are blinding other drivers. Are drivers flashing you? In fog/snow does the SS6 light spill upward? That would be somewhat contrary to what fogs should do (at least for my purposes).

Can anybody offer a comparison or comments about beam cut-off with the much more expensive SAE lights (Baja/Rigid)?

Have not been able to find example beam patterns other than DD has shared in video.
I live is snow region, will opt for the white over yellow as heavy snow few time a season, need to watch for deer/moose/bear all year round.

I don't have any beam cutoff pics. Oncoming traffic has never flashed me when my SS6 are on. I just started turning them off on my own accord. We have a couple tight, hilly, blind intersection roads and bridges that are already hard enough for two cars/trucks to pass each other by at night. When no one is around, the SS6 are much better then the white OEM fogs. It helps identify deer grazing on the side of the road or worse, about to run in front of me.

I had Pro SS3 White fogs on my Taco that I had to aim straight down or I would be flashed. Never had a pair of BDs for comparison sake.

When the SS6 first turn on, it is amazing the amber tones and clarity. Your eyes then adjust but the contrast is still thereafter.

Have the amber SS6's as well and they work much better than stock. They do not blind other drivers and are very wide. it's a great time to shop for them as many vendors have DD stuff on sale now for Black Friday.

What vendors have them cheaper than DD with the black Friday sale?

Just picked up the Heretic ambers, will report how they workout for me, along with the light bar in clear.

I ordered the amber set directly from DD's site. I got free shipping from them with a code I found online.

I love them. But in dark highways you will get flashed. I got flashed quite a few times on my last night run where it was about 5 hours in the dark. They don’t have a crisp cutoff and will spill upwards in snow and what not. If you want a true fog light get the Baja sae.
I still love these DD’s though.

Can you adjust the aim of them? I wonder if they are just pointed a little bit high?

I have the BD non SAE ambers and couldn't be happier. It was one of the best mods I have done on my 3rd gen. The output is amazing and makes driving in hazardous weather so much easier.

I use mine in all conditions while driving and have been flashed 2-3 times. Out of courtesy if I am in traffic, in the drive thru or behind a small.car I will turn them off so I'm not blinding others.

I highly encourage you to pull the trigger on the upgraded fogs. You will not regret it

Not really. You can a little but they aren’t sae.

you will lose width with the sae Baja. The DD did a good comparison

The Heretic you can chose the light pattern you want. I went with a combo pattern.

Which would be even worse for fogs (if using them as fogs)

What pattern would you recommend? I’ll give Heretic a call, current lead time is like 2 to 4 weeks..

If you’re going with that brand, flood.

honestly the only true fog light that’s sae is Baja sae and I think rigid light have one, but j haven’t seen pictures of its cut off.

An ideal fog light is wide, and has a relatively sharp cut off. They are supposed to light up the foreground mostly, and not glare light up. If you glare light up in fog, snow, heavy rain, the light reflects back at you and you can’t see shit. With a sharper cut off it won’t reflect back at you and cut through the inclement weather.

Diodedynamics is advertised as sae but they aren’t. You can see in the above picture a lot of light is going above the main beam pattern. They are honestly amazing 90% of the time. On really dark highways that are not divided I’ll turn them off as I’ve been flashed in that scenario. Other wise I’ve never been flashed. I’ll also turn them off if pulling up on a small car like another user said. But they are wide and light up a lot of stuff.

depends on how you plan to use them

I plan to use them as true fog lights to cut thru the fog in inclement weather. I also purchased a light bar for my TRD grille from Heretic that I will use to supplement my lighting for regular driving. I’ll use as long as I don’t blind oncoming traffic. I’ve had some close calls in dark back country road with deer, my light I also chose a combo pattern. So it’s use will limited to off roading or desolate dark roads with no oncoming traffic.

In that case I’d honestly invest in Baja.

I use a DD driving and a DD COMBO on rural highways and it’s saved me a few times. Getting one of each if possible is worth it imo. It’ll get you the width, and the distance without too much foreground light.

you don’t want too much light near the truck when you’re using high beams/distance light as you’ll focus closer to the truck, and the bright foreground will reduce your distance vision.

I can’t say for sure. But you can tell in the pictures. If you look at the SAE for fog lights there should not be glare above the cutoff line.

look at the below link for sae fogs, and look at the picture of the DD above. DD has no cut off and a lot of light going up. Look at the oem fogs, and they’re not like that. Nor are any oem sae fog lights. My Acura also has a crisp cut off.

They might meet sae standards for other forward lighting though.

the DD light is more like a wide cornering pattern. Look at the second link.

Have had the DD white fogs for a few months. After tuning the height, very pleased.
    - do not have the sharp cutoff the OEM has
    - much brighter and maybe 2x the current draw
    - I aligned them so the spill remains below the low beam cutoff

Over all, they were worth the change. Much more light to the side and forward, even when kept within low beam pattern. Once aimed, have not had oncoming cars flash, I do drop off when in dense traffic.

I did repurpose the OEM fogs to backup lights, work well in that position.

Here is a comparison. It's clear the SS6 spills over the OEM cutoff. I have not been flashed (yet), am considering lowering the drivers side beam a bit.

That stinks. I was hoping they wouldn't have any glare above the factory headlight cutoff. I've got a set I'm about to install.

Yeah. If you want a solid cut off you need to go Baja
