    Hi all,
I have a 2010 Crewmax 5.7L, and I want a little more rumble in my exhaust. I don't care about increasing HP or mpg, I just want a little more sound. I am wanting to buy a single muffler and cut out the stock and have a friend weld in the new one, using all the same existing piping, so it's cheap and as simple as possible. I don't want huge roar either. I just want something very smooth sounding, with a little growl. I DON'T WANT aggressive, or drone. Just something that sounds like a smooth TRD exhaust. I've listened to the audio clips thread but those are systems with piping done. I want to keep all stock piping if possible.

    First off, is this possible?

Secondly, what measurements do I need to know? Does length of muffler vary? If so, what length do I need? What size are our muffler pipes, inlets and outlets? Arrangment of holes matter? As you can see, I don't know much about exhaust. I just want to buy the right thing so it's easy for my friend to cut out and weld in.

Lastly, any muffler recommendation that's moderate in sound with no drone?

    Thanks in advance.

Welcome from Obx d44boy, head over to new member introductions and introduce yourself . As far as mufflers talk to Keith over @ http://www.bamufflers.com/.
I did just a muffler swap, but went with Spintec Custom Mufflers . Great sound, but does have some drone. Nothing I can't handle with the stereo . Good luck:thumbsup:

Ideally after all write ups I'd love a BAMuffler but from what I've read I'd need a system from him because of all the size differences and such. Maybe he can chime in as I was reading older threads. I literally only want to cut out and weld as that would be cheapest.

Check out https://spintechmufflers.com/. Guy's name is Ron Didanato. He can custom build your muffler or suggest one with little to no drone . I paid $120 for mine .

If you absolutely want cheapest then get a flowmaster delta 50. You can cut the muffler out and weld this in with short extensions. The muffler is smaller then stock sounds good too but you'll have bit of drone. I thought about this but went with bamufflers budget system because it was bolt on. So if I wanted to go back to stock I could. I'm certainly not going to because I get a chubby every time I drive my truck. The bamufflers come with a resonator. I chose to keep the resonator off because it's a bit louder without it but there is a slight bit of drone. No drone at all with the resonator. Bamuffler sounds awesome not too loud but the folks around you know you got a v8. More expensive but worth every penny. Call Keith he won't steer you wrong he's not gonna tell you his system is best period, he's gonna tell you how to make your truck sound exactly how you want it with his systems or not. Serious customer service at dirty deeds. I will tell you, you can't go wrong with bamufflers. I'm happy with the budget system.

You ever hear the 50 series BIG BLOCK? Supposedly the quietest flowmaster but i listened to audio clips and still has a nice deep sound with extra noise.

You should contact Keith Carty @dirtydeeds he can design you a system as loud or as quiet as you want. I have the BAM 8” system and I LOVE IT!

And he sell just the mufflers if that’s what you want

more than I can list here
The recommendations are true. I can certainly help. And am glad to:)

The stock muffler has a 1/4 wave resonator built into it. If you remove it and install something without a quarter wave resonator your truck will drone.

The only muffler besides stock that has a quarter wave resonator built into it is Corsa. But they only sell a bolt on system, not just a muffler.

I sell just a muffler. But it doesn’t have a quarter wave resonator built into it. I’ve found it’s more effective to put the resonator into the tailpipe.

So you could buy just a muffler and just a quarter wave resonator from me. Then figure out where to put it all. How to properly build a y pipe. What sizing to use. Etc. or just buy the system and be down with it.

Our 10” or 12” system is nearly stock quiet until you step on it. Even then 12” is pretty much quiet as stock.

You’ll gain 3-10hp 10-20tq to the rear wheels.

Try a turn down dump right before the rear axle using your stock muffler. I believe you will like the sound, and it's dirt cheap.

Can anyone confirm that I need dual 2.25" in and center 3" outlet?

What do you mean dump? Just cut right after the muffler, or I need to add a turn down tip? Is that a cat or a resonator that is right behind the muffler?

Dump & turn down mean the same to me, but I'm old. We cut the tailpipe at an angle to create a turn down while retaining the original resonator.

So I would cut the pipe in a downward angle right after the small resonator which is right after the muffler, correct? It makes a significant sound difference?

Thanks for the input. I appreciate it.

Dump after axle is what I'd recommend

Thanks Pudge for the info. Rats. My exhaust is actually like that now. Not on purpose, but because I had to cut it because my truck is lowered and the pipe would hit so I had to cut it pretty much as it is in the picture. The sound did not change at all, and my truck is still quiet.

Any other ideas other than spending money? LOL

I actually went with the 50 series flowmaster on my truck. I had a guy cut off the stock muffler and run duals out behind each tire. I know you aren't wanting new pipes, but you can do just the muffler. My truck has a better rumble to it than stock, not overly aggressive, but more on the "sport" side. It does have a slight drone in the cab but between the regular road noise, I don't pay any attention to it. I also just usually turn the volume up a little more on the stereo and I'm good to go.

That's it! You remove the tail pipe, cut the pipe at an angle, rotate 180 degrees and re-install.
