So I found this gray box under the dash of my new-to-me truck today. It's attached to a button or scanner under the dash and tapped into all sorts of wires. Google is no help, any ideas what it is?

The purple connectors on the right tell me something's been added. Do the wires and the mystery box appear to be related?

Oh yeah, all of the purple t taps you see in that pic are connected to the wiring for this box. I just want to know what it is so I can see if it's safe to remove. My financing doesn't have any mention of having an interlock installed so I want it out of there if that's what it is.

Try hitting the lock button multiple times to see if the engine starts. I'd try three, wait, if it doesn't start try four and then five. It could be something useful that the dealer didn't know about.

I was hoping it may have been that but no combination of button tapping or holding that I've tried will start it so I don't think that's it unfortunately.

It's definitely an ignition lock or alarm. However there's no sticker anywhere on the truck that says this was installed. As I was tracing the wires up the steering column I found where they just cut one and used butt connectors to attach their stupid device. I need to go get some butt connectors now as I don't have any that are small enough for this.

That's what I get for having an iPhone. I did find some more pics of this on Google after a while. Ugh.

Yeah I found most of this same info after I made this post actually. Thanks for the help, I'm just tracing everything down so I can remove it now.

Would it be worthwhile to get a replacement fob instead of removing it? Considering the number of connections, it might be the safer option.

Those don't look like splices, the look like bullet connectors. You can unplug them and replug the green wires rather than cutting them out.

I'll have to look at them later. I already removed it all and connected the green wire back to itself. Truck started right up no problems.

Well crap, now you just created a rift in “the Matrix”. Don’t answer the phone or we’re all doomed.
