I've got a strange vibration in my truck that comes and goes. I will be driving along at 65 mph and all of a sudden this vibration starts coming in and starts shaking pretty darn hard almost like a tire is ready to blowout. I spun all the wheels on the balancer and they were fine,. Road force variation was no more than 11lbs per tire so they are fine. It did it again the other day, it almost feels like driveline, is shakes like heck then will sometimes go away after 5 min? it's crazy. I can hardly wait to hear all the bull from the dealer if they can't reproduce it. Anyone else heard of this?

Do you have a lift? if you do, it may be as simple as putting on a carrier bearing drop..

if not, may be the u joints or a ball bearing.....maybe the driveshaft is unbalanced somehow..

Truck is bone stock except for TRD rear sway bar. No lift kits, factory wheels and tires.

How many miles on your 14?

How long at 65 does it take to start vibrating? Every time?

First, where do you fell the vibration? Seat of your pants or the steering wheel? If it's in the driveline, I would check the snap rings that hold the bearing caps in. I've seen those rings break off and the cap starts to slide out. Look at the driveshaft and look for marks for where the weights would have been attached to the drive shaft. If they are missing you will notice it right away cuz you would see some beads of weld where they were tacked on the driveshaft. could also be a bearing. Sometimes you will hear the bearing sound like its chirping like a bird. I had a bearing fail in my explorer. I was driving along and all of sudden the vehicle started shaking and making noise. I pulled over and checked the tires and everything was good. So I started driving and it was fine. Day or two later it started doing it again, I looked underneath and saw some gear oil leaking and new I needed an axle seal and bearings. Hope this helps and good luck. If it gets bad pull over and have it towed. A tire that fails going 65 mph can be deadly. Best of luck

The shaking is not consistent, it is for sure seat of the pants. It will all of a sudden just start to "come in" after a few minutes driving at 65 mph. But sometimes it will not do it, weird as heck. Personally I am thinking driveline, but hard to say for sure, I know GM junk, not Toyota's.

Do you hear a clunk when starting out from a stop? Especially in reverse?

Made an appointment to drop it off at the dealer I got it from a week from now. I am going to rack it tonight and have a quick look after work. The Toyota dealer near me is awful and I don't want to take it there.

I get intermittent vibration between 64 and 72 mph but it's strictly in the steering wheel.

I just purchased brand new 17 crew max that has a bilstean lift. While traveling for vacation I could hear an intermittent vibration that would come and go around 70mph. I do not feel it in the seat or steering wheel at all. It sounds like it's coming from the front passenger side wheel well. Strange as heck and I have no idea how to find a fix or where to begin?

My truck seems to do it at around 60 to 65 mph within the first 5 miles of my drive. I chalk it up to flat spots in the tires from sitting overnight.

Do you have lower profile tires?

My Lexus does that with the continental tires I put on it. Back to Michelin tires when these ones wear out.

Actually it could even be that I drive the same section of road every day LOL. It hasn't bothered me too much. I had a trailblazer SS with the stock 20 inch rims and and it did it with the stock tires too. Seems like when I switched to some Nitto's it went away.

How many people with this issue grease their u-joints every 5k as the Toyota maintenance table recommends?

Sorry I didn’t update. I finally determined it was a particular stretch of road that oscillates just right. It does it in the same spot every time. At first I thought the driveshaft was ready to blow out of it. Although Toyota says it’s normal I don’t like how soft the rubber is on the center hanger bearing. I even had the shop foreman (who was a nice guy and really sharp) drive the truck for a week. He was never able to reproduce it. Finally determined it was a particular 2 mile stretch of road on 101 north near Novato California that it does it.

He did also suggest just tapping the brake enough to get the tcc to release in case it was TCC shudder but it did it on that stretch as well.

Fark, that thing has grease fittings? Wow I am guilty as charged. I will be sure to lube them with some amsoil grease tonight. So used to Chevy crap that has no fittings.

Luckily I’m only at 40 K miles so from the time I dropped it for the concern and when I bought it the vehicle has gone about 10k between greasing. Not terrible.

Just got under my truck, I have a crewmax with a 2 piece driveshaft. No grease fittings on the U-Joints.
