Is it the handle that's broke or the latch on the bottom that's not releasing?

Both common issues on the 1st Gen

Latch not disengaging. Down below. previous owner, took out bolts and nuts, and bent some pieces on the inside of the tailgate. rear window is stuck up, doesn’t go down, but the relay kicks in, and even though the handle works, and the cable works, is not unhooking

That part gets real gummy, I bought the replacement part for my 04.
Try spraying some Kroil or PB on the mechanism and let it sit for a while.
Careful pulling the handle too hard, I've replaced two of them.

    Damn.
Hard to tell exactly what the linkage should be grabbing in there.

Assuming you're doing all this by crawling back in the cargo area? Been there

    I'm 6'7"

Is there anything you can remove to get a closer look? It's been a few years since I've had a look at it

The suns down for the day. Tomorrow i will take photos and upload. Mind you im having to reverse engineer, somebody’s hammer, hand repair jimmy rig nonsense!

thats tall! I wish i was that tall. on the upside, I can go places Utah people can’t go! I can almost stand in the back of my S sequoia.

I used to have a 2015 Tahoe, lots of other Chevys before that. first time Toyota owner here so far I love it in fact, it’s better than the Tahoe in many ways! Next is an oil change and it looks easy so does the oil sensor since mine kind sits low a bit. 200k running solid. Paid $500

    That's a hell of a deal!

I wouldn't worry about the low oil pressure on the gauge, typical for the 4.7 at idle.
As long as it's in the normal range on a cold start, you're good.
I changed my sensor, nothing changed.

Here's a Sequoia thread you might like.

So, figured out why it wouldn't unlatch.

Anyone know how to stop that little black switch from moving back into the "locked" position? My idea is jbweld. Because that part has wires ripped from the plug... Someone else's hammer hands.

as of right now every time I wanna open the back I gotta climb back there, reaching there with my finger and flipped that black switch up and use my index finger in middle finger and grab the latch or pull the cable.
