I have a 2017 tundra. I bumped the tailgate when opened. The latches will not release when using the handle to open the tailgate. I have a hard tonneau cover with a twist handle release, not a pull cable. How can I release the side latch strikes from outside the bed ?

Is the twist handle for tonneau cover inside the bed? You can’t open it with the tailgate closed?

I just looked at mine and only thing I can think of is removing access panel on inside of tailgate. Meaning you’re going to need to get inside of bed.

Yupe. Twist handle is on the underside of the cover, inside the bed. Can't get too it. Looking for alternate way to open either the cover or how to manually release the side latches on the tailgate from the outside.

Don’t know if this helps but here’s what you’re dealing with.

    Is the tailgate bent, dented?
Does it feel like the rods are still connected to the handle?
Try lifting the handle and pushing on the tailgate maybe prying up/down, side to side with something plastic

Tried all of this. Tailgate is slightly misaligned due to direct impact on right side of the top of it while down. Right hinge pushed slightly forward

Pried the sides of my 3-piece hard cover up & worked my way to the rear twist opener. All set.
