Starting the header swap first pulling the passenger side.

The high flow cat turned into guerrilla style mechanics when the threaded bolt stopped and the locking nut started spinning. I just pulled the whole thing out as one piece but now I need to cut the bolt connecting the two. Should I blow torch it, hammer and chisel, Any suggestions? The bolt example is in my hand below.

Thanks ahead for any advice and helping get my JBA header post up. -Mark

I use a propane torch for those. Heat the nut red hot and they unscrew just fine.

Tight quarters I will use a refillable micro butane torch. It works quite well.

Think the cat bolt has a ridge or something holding the nut on, can that butane go through the whole bolt or up the side of the nut?

Meaning can I heat it up enough to cut it off with something

I'm not sure what your asking. Is the nut stripped? I've never had trouble removing the cat bolts when heating them red hot. Living in the rust belt, the hot wrench is always near and ready.

Let me take a better picture of the situation and show you, the high flow cat nut seems to be lock on the bolt to remove the bolt. I some how broke the nut off the top of the bolts ridge that holds it on to the bolt, and worked it to the bottom of the nut, with the bolt still stuck in the thread. I’m getting a better picture..

This is what it looked like before I removed the both pieces as one.496C7E47-920B-4829-9FDA-A0793D3C3921.jpg

I’m pretty sure lighting this bolt (or nut more than likely) on fire is the only way to break it. I’ll try the butane torch on the nut first. Any suggests on something to cut the bolt or maybe even possibly drilling it out?

heres a close up to show the lip or ridge that seems to be stopping me from removing the nut.
    1EBEEB01-F301-4EB2-A00B-369C043DD318.jpg

I worked on it with serval methods of hitting it but the nuts not coming off or going back down.

if I can cut through the bolt or nut I’ll be done in a few minutes.

Looks more like a tab holding the nut

They are like $8 at Lowes...or an angle grinder, or dremel tool, or...whatever you have really. Just cut the sucker.

Sawzall should cut it like butter. If you don't have one maybe a Dremel with a cutoff wheel?

Hmm,, think that might be it. Those sawzalls cut through anything, you can make a sunroof with those things. Thanks, I do think I’m going with the latter.

I've got one of these attachments that connects to my Dremel. You can add the cutoff wheel to it and get in some tight places.

I think I picked it up at Lowe's or Home Depot, don't recall. It works pretty good, but can kink somewhat easily which stops the tool from spinning. The key is to keep it mainly straight or use larger bends when maneuvering with it.

Really wanted to start a fire on this nut but I think cutting through will be safer for my neighborhood.
You ever break one of these by kinking it?

I’m pretty sure I’m going to beat the hell out of this dremel. I think this is the best advice for this problem.

Nope. It will just stop the attachment on the end from spinning. When I notice this the line is usually kinked, after straitening it out a bit you're good to continue. I've had it for maybe 10 years or so and still works great.

If using a dremel, all you have to do is split the nut on one side and it will twist off the rest of the way.

Cutting the side of the nut will definitely put us in business. I’ll probably hit it several times with a rubber mallet for sentimental value after I split it. That thing has been ridiculous today.

I understand. I've had bolts in the past where it become a personal vendetta.
