I'm looking at having Sumo Springs installed when I replace my rear leafs in the near future. I don't tow or haul heavy very often, but want the support for when I do. Does anyone have them and how is the ride quality when you're empty?

You have a 2005, your rear spring setup is more similar to tacomas. I would guess your frame will be sitting on the sumo spring all the time. Your ride will be stiffer

possibly, however i run +1 CH shackles as well which give me .62 inch lift. If I didn’t have the shackles my sumos would be sitting on the frame at rest. When you hit a big bump, you feel them. No way around it, you’re adding a heavy spring when they compress over 2 inches or so

Slow down on the speed bump, speed bumps are designed to make any vehicle jump

im not talking about speed bumps. When you hit bumps in the road at speed, sudden dips, road imperfections, they will bump ya!

i have a daily set that is cut and a trailer towing set. Easy to swap.

if you cut them, they no longer help with load hauling.

    do you own them?

I installed the yellow units, (the softest) for two things.
    1. Additional load support.
    2. And the most important to me was what I call an "intelligent sway bar" effect. Having the Sumos touch the frame under no load will allow them to act as a sway bar without having a sway bar down there potentially causing issues while four wheeling over semi rocky terrain.
You can trim them so they do not touch until under load but, I prefer a little preload to gain roll control of body on the road.

I ended up ordering the blue ones. I figure they'll give me the best chance of a decent ride while supporting the loads I put on my truck. If they're too stiff for daily driving, I'll pull them out and just install them when I need to load up. Seems to be a simple enough job.

like one guy said, when loaded up, they are awesome, they really make the rear stable. You can’t take them off/on easily, they have a fixed mount that the spring screws on to, thus why i have 2 sets

This SES Suspension Upgrade replaces the jounce stop on the frame. Its unique design ensures superb ride quality – loaded or unloaded. (There should be a ½” to 1 ½” gap between rubber spring and frame to ensure unloaded ride quality.) Unlike other auxiliary spring systems, the SES Suspension Upgrade guarantees the best of both worlds.

TORTUN4* replaces the bumpstops on the rear suspension of the 2000-2021 Toyota Tundra pickup truck models. *For a complete listing please refer to the FITMENT tab below.

This kit is rated at 6000 lbs capacity. Even though you’re increasing the spring rate by adding this upgrade, this does not increase the GVWR (Gross Vehicle Weight Rating). Please make sure that the load does not exceed the GVWR set by the manufacturer.

This has been my experience also. Blue Sumos on a 2018 DC. Have a topper and bedslide so @400lbs load daily. Supports the load, reduces sway, balances the rear to front loads helps front and rear suspension to work together. Slighter rougher ride, especially on sharp bumps.

I got the blue ones and they're being installed on Monday. Worst case scenario, if the ride is too rough they look super easy to remove when I don't need them. No need to even unbolt the ubolts, the Sumo Spring just unscrews from the mounting bracket. Might need to jack the frame up a bit to get clearance to pull them out.

Edited my post. My mistake. I have the blue ones. @45,000 miles on them. They do what I needed them to do. Also, 105,000 miles on the Tundra, great trucks. Holding out hope the updated model will be better.........

They're great. Have about 4k on them now and I am very happy.
Had 9 3 gallon water jugs in there a few days ago, then went out and picked up groceries, 9 bags (we have grand kids).
Didn't feel any sway back there at all on the way home.
Towing out two bike enclosed trailer, nothing back there to feel different.
A definite good thing for a pick up.
I'm not sure if you leveled out your truck.
I did and that coupled with the Sumos the truck rides better than stock.
