I have recently found myself in need of some sunglasses. I have had Maui Jim's and the cheap ones. They all serve their purpose. I am looking for something that is light weight but very good. The Maui Jim's I have are outstanding, however with glass lenses they are heavy and start to bother the bridge of my nose.

    What do you all wear?

If I wanted to spend less than $100 for a pair of sun glasses what would you recommend?

    TIA

    Dan

I have an old pair of Oakley Fives that are my go to sunglasses. I have bought others after them, some pricey, but the old Fives are my favorite. I think they are right around your budget, but the frames need to fit your style, face shape, etc. as well.

Just recently purchased a pair of Oakley Canteen. Really like the fit. Believe they were around $160.

Oakley is one of my favorite. They take a lot of abuse. If you or someone you know is a first responder, military, or LEO check out

Www.usstandardissue.com they give a healthy discount to those who serve.

I have a pair of Gascan S that were retired after 7 years of hard use, and a pair of crankcase polarized. Gonna have to order a set with a prescription soon. :pout: getting old sucks

Yep, Oakley's ... I've got around 8-10 pairs. My polarized Two Face and Gascan/S are my favorites. Unfortunately though, you won't find many standard Oakley's for $100.00

I have ran the gauntlet of high end sunglasses. Oakley will be the lightest by far. Costa (in my opinion) are the best they have a life time lens replacement and most have small rubber inserts that help the glass stay in place as you sweat. I am primarily using my SPY sun glasses but they are heavy and clunky (look great). If your a Maui Jim fan the Oakley two face are light and classy looking.Oakley-009189-06-2.jpg

I have polarized Oakley Straight Jackets for work, and bought a pair of Oakley Straightlinks with the new Prizm lenses for use outside of work. I've beat the hell out of my work sunglasses and they still serve me well. You can find unpolarized Oakley Oil Rigs for around $130.

This is the color combo and what the body looks like, although I got the dark black lenses.

In that price range you may be able to find some Smith's on sale, and I know you could get a pair by Native eyewear. I've had a few pairs of native's, they are very good at that price point. Native has been my every day sunglass for probably 10 years. I also have Maui Jim

I just bought another pair of Oakley fives, new, polarized, for $69 on ebay. I did a remodel for the guy that designs the molds for Oakley. Really interesting, more than 500 parts to each mold. They make 1 million pair and then have to trash the mold.

As mentioned you can't really go wrong with Oakley. My Half Jacket frames are 10 years old and besides the silver wearing off are still functional. Worst part is Oakley stopped making lenses for them but Revant offers decent replacements for lenses and rubber parts.

Wiley X. I have been using these guys for several years partly because they make "factory" prescription sunglasses. They have been really tough. I recommend them to all my friends and have not heard a complaint yet. Reasonably priced

I like my Oakley's and I also use Hoven which I wear the most. I have two sets of the Hoven times polarized glasses. They have big lenses, because I am outside all day I need to block out as much as I can. They serve me well I also needed the large glasses because I had a melanoma spot taken off my cheek right by my eye so I like to keep that area covered. These glasses are basically middle of the road. They're very durable, light and and around 70 to 80 bucks. So they're definitely not some liquor store sunglasses and they're not $200 holy shit I scratched them sunglasses.

Another vote for Costa's. I've got a pair of Tag's that they don't make any more with a dark grey lens. Then a pair of fathom with the blue mirror lens. Blue mirror works excellent on the water and in white out snow conditions (daytime only). Really clarifies things.

For what it's worth my opinion is Costa! Especially if you spend time on the water. I have several pair I rotate through-break a pair send them off and pick up another. There not cheap but really what good glasses are? I haven't any knowledge of Maui Jims other than my father put on a pair of my costa's and hasn't worn his Jims since....Nor has he gave mine back lol

I actually have a pair of these as backups that I got about 7 years ago. They are surprisingly good for such an inexpensive pair. I have a pair of Maui Jims as my nice pair. I am looking for something I can throw around in my truck or abuse on the range that I won't worry about scratching. I definitely want polarized glasses!

    Thanks for all the input!

PS. With this post I am finally hit 50 posts!

Heard a lot of good things about Smith Optics on some of the inshore fishing forums, more than likely gonna give them a try next time I have to replace my Costas.

I have some polarized Ray Bans that I wear at work/while driving and some Costa 580G with the green lenses that I wear when I'm on the boat.
