Okay, so my mom used my 2006 Tundra yesterday and opened the sunroof since it was a beautiful day and when she went to close the sunroof, it would close about half way and then reopen. I tried talking her through some steps to try to get it to close but nothing helped. I had her try the key in the door trick (locking the door and holding the key in the lock position) checking the fuse and still it would not close.
Finally she took the truck to the Toyota dealership and they want to charge $1600 to change out the motor. $810 for the motor and the rest in labor. I have done a search on here and figured if I can get the motor (second hand) I could change it out myself. How hard can it really be?
Anyways, my question is.... Does anyone know/have the part number of the sunroof motor. I have Toyota part number (63260-0C010) but like I said it is listed as $500 - $810. Is there another part number besides Toyota's part number? Or where can I pick one up?

I'm offshore or I would pulled down the headliner and have a look but it will be a few weeks until I can get home to do that.

Have they tried holding the button until it closes??? My Celica sometimes did this where it refused to close all the way. It would go half way and open back up, so I would hold the button until it closed all the way and it would stay close... It only does it randomly, I'm unsure of the cause.. Hope this helps some...

Yes, she tried doing that but it just stopped half way and would reopen.

Is there debris jammed in between the rails?? its almost like the garage door opener, if it detects something on the tracks it will pop back open and to not crush some fingers, limbs or appendages

Toyota Dealership checked everything out and informed mom that the motor needed to be replaced. I'm gonna say that they probably did check the track but I really don't know.

I have ZERO experience with any sunroof, but it could be a dirty track, or just lack of lube.

Edit: you've already thought of it. Disregard.

sounds like pinch protection.. could be a failed motor.. not horrible to remove since the headliner can come out easily with the rear window rolled down.

Yes, my friend's Honda Accord had that exact experience where the lube dried out and it would refuse to close as well..

Okay, I'll have to do some more checking when I get on land. I was just seeing if there was another part number that I could get just in case I needed a new motor.

Personally the Dealership is the last place I would first take it to. If you have family or friends by your Mom I would have them double check the rails to see if they are dirty and clear of any obstructions.

Totally agree about the dealership being the last place to go to. Bro-in-Law checked before she went to the dealership and I did ask mom if there was anything that could be in the track.
She just told me that the dealership was able to get the sunroof closed.. My response was "DO NOT OPEN IT"

Look at your local junk yard. You will most likely find it in a 2001-2007 Sequoia

I have notifications set up for my local LKQ Pick Your Part anytime a 05-07 sequoia and 05-06 tundra come in. Download the app.

As someone else said, it sounds like the pinch protection is being activated by resistance in the mechanism -- which means something is causing resistance in the system. I suppose the motor could be the problem, but I would think it's more likely that the resistance is being caused by something else, like a foreign object (piece of a branch or some other debrit caught in a track) or from something as simple as multiple points needing cleaning and/or lubrication. I'd pull it apart, and clean everything with a toothbrush, a vacuum, and compressed air. Then lube with whatever Toyota recommends, and reassemble.

My drivers window in a previous vehicle did this. Lack of lube increased the resistance to the point it would cut the motor out. My first course of action for this would be a thorough clean and lube of the components. Inspect for parts that can degrade and fall apart over time like plastic rollers or track guides. This roof is cable driven, so inspect clean and lube the cables as well. Often times, unfortunately it is the motor going bad. Those motors are around $500 from Toyota. Glad they were able to get the sunroof shut.
