Looking for recommendations on a ~3” lift to fit a set of 295/70R18. Looking for a lift that is long lasting, rebuildable, keep or improve on stock ride. Living in the PNW I will be traveling logging trails to get to camp sites, but I don’t do any hardcore mudding or rock crawling. I do tow quite a bit with the travel trailer during the summer and work trailer a few times a month. Also looking for a kit that will keep good geometry for longevity. Been looking at the Ironman Foam Cell Pro 3.5 Stage 2.what do the rest of you think

I'm in the PNW as well with a very similar use case. Running 295/70/18 Toyo AT3's and quite happy with them. For suspension I'm running the Elka 2.5 DC kit, I've had great results with it but there are many other great kits as well.

Below is a like to a video I posted in another thread covering the Elka kit. Also recently added the RAS kit to assist the rear springs for travel trailer duty.

I have had 3 different types of suspension/coilovers on 3 of my previous 4 tundras. First was Sway-a-Way. Can't remember much since these were on my first tundra(08). Next was a 2.0 Fox setup. It rode closer to stock and was a nice ride overall. Currently running Blistein 6112F/5160R. These are a harsher ride than stock in normal driving conditions. Off-road is where it shines. For me, living in a city and not doing much off-roading, if I had to do it over I would reconsider the 6112/5160 and go with a more street friendly coilover. Now the Elks that was mentioned look awesome but just the shocks cost as much as the Ironman kit you mentioned. I have no opinion on the Ironman since I have never researched them. There are plenty of options and different prices. So depends on your budget and what you will be doing.

So I am very much considering 6112/5160's. Also with a Dobinson HD leaf pack (My 46 gallon tank seems to be giving me extra bounce when full)

My question to you is what wheels and tires are you rolling on?

6112/5160 worked great on my DC Tundra.

5100’s prolly won’t get you to 3” and don’t ride as well when cranked up, IMO, but are inexpensive.

6112/5160’s are awesome and hard to beat for the monies. I’d recommend a shim or two to get you up to 3” and leaving the clip one from the top setting.

Dobinsons MRR’s are fantastic but a little more dough. A true coilover that you can use a standard 3” ID coil on for different spring rates and ride heights, then adjust the collar for your desired height. Shouldn’t be. Problem to get 3” with and ride is arguably improved. MRR’s give you ride adjustability with a few clicks. Fat body rear shocks and reservoirs are nice as they provide more volume, better damping with the larger piston, and hopefully better longevity.

That said, I’ve put over 100k miles on a 6112/5160 setup before one of the rears became problematic (not blown, but sticking). I tried a few different setups, including another set of 6612/5160’s that I just pulled off for the Dobinson MRA’s. So I can’t speak the dobinson longevity yet, but the 6112’s went through 100k miles of decently hard use.

All trucks are different. My 6112 are set at 2.7 because I can't go to the highest setting since I am not 4x4. Anyways my UCA are maxed out of adjustment. If I wanted to go to exactly 3" the I would need UCA.

I actually went with JBA UCA's just to avoid any alignment issues. Have no complaints about those JBA's, pretty solid.

Well... You'll get a few different thoughts around here, but I am glad to hear that those who have chimed in have at least attempted to point you in the right direction! The Ironmans are known for being a few things: Cheaper (comparatively), perpetually on sale to make you think you're always getting a deal, and having coil springs that bend. :bananadead: Will they work for you? Sure, most likely they will. Are there better choices out there? We believe so. The Bilstein 6112/5160 combo is the most popular setup that we sell here at Hotshot Offroad, followed closely by the Eibach Pro 2.0 kits so it's funny that the guys chiming in here are running those, because I don't think that we sold them (at least not all). That said, depending on how you really use your vehicle there are some changes that we can make to help lessen the financial load.

We should also address your continued towing needs. Are you running anything in the rear to help manage that, or are you hoping something like a new leaf pack in the rear would tackle that? Depending on how much rear rake that you want (or stance) we could maybe look into something like a Roadactive suspension.

Also, you can get away with 295s on less than 3" of lift. I have full articulation on 2.5" of lift. How much offset do you have on the wheels that you run? You'll likely need to cut back the cab mount either way, and do some plastic trimming. 3" of lift up front will unfortunately not be the silver bullet for full clearance.

All said, I dip into the forum periodically through the day here so if you have more questions I can answer them here, but might be slow to reply. Alternatively, please don't hesitate to reach out to us at Hotshot Offroad 406-936-0206 anytime.

We can get you the 6112/5160s as well as the Dobinsons pack :spy::cool:

It’s all gonna come down to your budget. Tell us what you’re wanting to spend, and we can be more help!

This can be anywhere from a grand to several grand…

Ok. If that’s the case, I’d skip any of the budget lifts and go with some quality mid-travel gear.

    Front:
    New UCAs
    Duro Bumps
2.5” coilovers. Pick the brand you like, but get good ones. Fox, King, or ADS all make top notch parts.

    Rear:
Deaver or Alcan rear leaf packs.
    Extended shackles.
2.5” shocks. Can go smooth body or bypass, depending on your needs.
Bump stops can be your OEM or hydro bumps.
    Toyota rear sway bar.

    Get it aligned. Rally.

it’s worth checking with Matt at MCM Fabrication for this entire gig. He’s got it dialed and can put together an awesome kit for you.

You’ll be in the $5K+ range for sure, but nothing short of long travel will touch you.

It’s all about the smiles per gallon.
