Swapped to 5w-30

    Not sure at this point.
    Probably have been talked and discussed a lot, what notable differences did you guys feel once switching over from 0w-20 to 5w-30.

    My acceleration feels more controlled with the switch. Not sure if I hear less of the timing chain being loud since I’ve never noticed that.

    MPG seems to have gone up to about 13.5mpg if I drive like a grandma.

    Mine sounded less rattle-y when I switched. The 5.7 is pretty noisy with 0W. It got quiet and smooth when I switched to 5W. I towed, so 5W30 is what's recommended in the owners manual.

    I noticed I don't weep anymore looking at how watery that 0w20 is while doing oil changes in summer.

    I'm "going heavier" to 0w-20 in the new Sienna, which is crazy in my mind, but agreed with everyone on their observations for the change on the 5.7. I am debating going back to 0w-30 for winter, but seeing how MA doesn't really get frigid anymore, I might just stay put at 5w-30 year round.

    I have both 5.7s on 5w30 in MA for a few winters combined. Zero issues. Zero issues starting a 5.7 on 5w30 in a zero degree weather in northern ME, too. My Vo-vo was on 10w40 for years in same conditions, zero problems.

    I’m thinking it probably is sounding smoother too. It feels a bit odd actually.

    I'm due for my next oil change. I'm going to switch to 5w-30. The truck sounds like a diesel tractor on 15 degree morning startups.

    Didn’t notice any major changes in sound or performance when I went to 5-30.


    If you fellas think 0-20 is bad, look at some other Toyotas! My kiddo just bought a 2025 Corolla Hybrid that takes 0-16.

    We’ve been eyeballing a new Camry, which now takes 0-8! Yeesh!

    Yeah, pretty close!

    We just did her first oil change at 1,000 miles. Found 0-16 full synthetic at NAPA pretty easy. Didn’t see any 0-8 on the shelf though. That may be dealer-only for a bit.
