Does anyone else have major tailgate rattle when driving over man hole covers. It is really bad on dirt roads and washboards (minor or major). Mine is a 23 TRD. My buddy has a Platinum and it’s quiet as a mouse. I can grab the bottom of the tailgate and lift it up and down when closed.

Yes. I have a 2024 Limited and my son has a 2024 SR5. Both of our tailgates rattle over bumps. Mine is worse than his. It's annoying and TRDJon on YouTube mentioned that he has the same problem and Toyota told him there is no adjustability in the tailgate. I'm sorry, but at almost $70k sticker price, my tailgate shouldn't rattle.

Thanks for the direction from everyone. One of the links seems very close to my situation. The problem I have is that I’ve had it back to the dealer multiple times and the problem is still there. Why does a $70k truck sound like there is a tool box bouncing in the bed while driving over a bump? Does anyone have suggestions on dealing with TMC directly?

Positive it’s the gate? Here In the forum we’ve had numerous people with beds rattling on their aluminum mounts. Some fixed by dealers and some done on their own. Use the search here to find the thread to learn more

100% certain. Dealer has done the following: checked all bed bolts, added insulation in the tailgate, placed insulation under the the plastic tailgate cap, rode in the bed of my truck on on a normal city road with man holes and witnessed the event and confirmed the source and saw the tailgate rattling. I have a video but I’m not able to upload it to the forum. Please let me know how to upload or I would gladly send you the video if you like. I have been dealing with issue since I drove it off the lot 11 months ago and am frustrated.

Put the pipe clamp on the right gate pivot and see what you get

That might solve the right side. What do I do with the other side with the spring pivot. BTW the left side rattles worse anyway. Talked to a fellow Tundra owner in a parking lot today and we looked at his truck. Tailgate was tight as a drum.

My 24 Ltd TRD ORP has a bad clunking noise when driving over bumps. It sounds like a plastic or rubber ball is bouncing around in the bed. I tried most of the suggestions on this forum and can't pinpoint the cause. I've gotten my tailgate pretty snug so I don't think that's what's bouncing around and from what I've read, the loose bed bolts were a problem on earlier gen 3 trucks (not 2024).

I did notice a gap between one of the rails and bumpers by the rear driver-side wheel. There is not a gap on any of the other bumpers. It sounds like it's the same area the noise is coming from. This photo shows the gap. Is it possible that this is causing the noise?

I had the rattle that I could hear on bumpy road. If back window is down, sounds like the window rattling. Fixed today.
I loosened all of the bed bolts (8 on 6.5 bed) and the bed "popped" like it was under tension. Finger tightened all the bolts, then torqued all back down. Perfectly quiet now.
