Hi everyone. Just purchased a 2001 Tundra SR5 AC 6.5’ bed V6 manual in tan, which I think is the desert sand mica. The top of the tailgate was dented and I’m trying to figure out what options I have. Are all tailgates interchangeable for all tundras between 2001 to 2006? If I can find a tall enough cap molding, then I can cover it, but no luck searching online so far. The other option is a junkyard, but so far I found a couple that came off the V8s. Thanks!

AC and DC are different trucks more or less.

    Look for another AC donor.

    Hello friend.

Please do yourself a favor and read this thread: https://www.tundras.com/threads/so-you-wanna-buy-just-bought-a-1st-gen-tundra-eh.115928/

It should answer many questions and give you the warnings you need to hear. Not a ton of V6 content but … “enough” stuff you absolutely need to know.

The access cab tailgate is shorter in height than a double cab tailgate

Thanks guys for the advice! So if I'm reading this post correctly, I have to look for AC tailgates only, but can it come off an AC with a V8 and/or AT?

IIRC AC and RC are same. DC is different.

    No no, not at all.
    • AC and RC share virtually all body parts, major exceptions being one bed is longer and one cab is larger but otherwise same doors, same front/rear glass etc. This includes the tailgate, of course.
    • DC is a totally different beast, but it and the Sequoia share a number of body parts, but the bed of DC is taller, with a totally different height/profile from the AC/RC, different doors, different fender flares, etc. - DC is more a "3rd cousin" to the AC/RC and more like a sibling of the Sequoia
    • AC DC RC do have wiring harnes differences for electrical stuff
    • AC DC RC do share a lot of engine and electrical parts
    • Engine-wise, 00-04 are pretty similar, 05-06 are nearly identical, but there's pretty siginificant differencess between the two year ranges (00-04 and 05-06), and people need to be wary when swapping engines in the 00-04 range because of varying wire pinouts for the throttle body, specifically

Any AC (or RC) with any engine and transmission and whatever else configuration will have the same tailgate size, correct.

    DC is out.
