Tailgate rod clip replacement

    Hopefully this will help someone down the road. The other day, I loaded my bed full of trash and the tailgate worked fine. I got to where I was dumping the trash and the tailgate wouldn’t open. I could hear the passenger side latch unlocking but not the drivers side. I removed the access panel to find the drivers side clip was broke; kind of what I figured.

    I searched and the OEM was not cheap and not locally available. I ended going to O’reilly’s and bought their Dorman ‘HELP’ rod clip assortment. Inside, there is a black clip that works perfectly. The trick is to insert into the hole on the latch first, then slide the rod in.
