I would like to see it on a Midnight Black if someone has tried this.
I also wonder about how legal this is?

I have tinted mine but not with this process or product: I used VVivid air-tint (smoke black). The curves of the lights make it very difficult to do well which is why I assume he used two pieces in this video.
As for legality, I think most likely it is NOT legal. Legality per DOT and in most states requires a minimum lumen output and a rear reflector. You can increase the lumens but I think the tint kills the reflector. I added higher power LEDs to make certain that the lumens were increased. Bad news for you if someone does not see your rear or brake lights. I do not think that the tint wrap I used decreases the lumen output.

Put it on my wife's car and that was a pain, I may eventually put it on my truck, but I'm not looking forward to it do to all the curves/edges.

We used vvivid as well, the smoke hex in particular. If I do mine, it will be pure/dark smoke to keep it dark/blacked out

I'd be careful tinting any lights. If you get involved in an accident a sharp ambulance chasing accident attorney might take that and use it against you.

My coworker was hit in the rear end by another car and was considered his fault due to tinting his taillights?

I've wondered if that could happen. How many LEO even look to see if the vehicle is DOT compliant.

I doubt that it was that simple of an issue. You would have to measure the light output and demonstrate less than stock and less than DOT required. I know some really good attorneys!

I don't understand why anyone would want to reduce the visibility of their brake lights or headlights. I can't count how many times I've been on the road and someone in front of me has smoked tail lights that barely register when the brakes are applied. As bad as people drive today with a complete lack of attention to what's in front of them while they're on their phones, I wouldn't want to give them any more help in providing me with a bad day. To each their own I guess.

I agree with you 100%. I made mine brighter and added even more lights to mine. The more the better.

Agree with the above, why on earth would you reduce your visibility to drivers behind you? Do your black tail lights really look that "cool"?

Not quite. They'd only need to argue that you altered the taillights. I've seen insurance companies refuse coverage as well, to their own insured, when they smoked lights.

And that is why insurance companies get sued for bad faith claim denials!

02364D77-331A-4317-BCA4-BE8F41890A89.jpg I had a local PPF installer do tinted PPF over the silver part of my headlight and clear PPF over the actual light. Think it turned out pretty nice

Might look cool, but not the best idea to tint tails or heads.

In the State of Iowa it is against code to tint your headlamps or taillights.
    Section 321.404A - Light-restricting devices prohibited
    1. A person shall not operate a motor vehicle, motorcycle, or motorized bicycle on the highways of this state if it is equipped with a device that restricts the light output of a headlamp required under section 321.385 or 321.386, a rear lamp required under section 321.387, a signal lamp or signal device required under section 321.404, or a directional signal device as described in section 321.317.
    2. A person who violates this section shall be subject to a scheduled fine under section 805.8A, subsection 3.
