I know toyota says you can't swap the tanks. They said that on the 1st and 2nd Gen too but they could still be swapped. Does anyone know if transferflow is making one for the 22s+ or has anyone done a tank swap from 22.5 to a 32.2 gallon tank. I drive 120 miles round trip and need a much bigger gas tank. I have the 5.5 ft bed so a in bed gas tank won't work. Let me know if you have any ideas or have heard or done the above

I know you could get a 32.5 tank in a 5.5 bed, not sure you can cram a much bigger tank in there than that though.

You should just contact transferflow and see if they have anything in the works.

This will affect your emissions and will void your warranty.

should’ve just got the package that included the 32 gallon tank.

    Good luck

    Rci skid plate,
How would it affect your emissions? I can see no warranty on the tank or changes made to the system since it didn’t come with those parts. Bit if it uses the factory evap canister and lines that came with the truck between 22.5 and 32.5 gal tanks it shouldn’t void anything other then the tank that didn’t come with the truck.

Added weight. Will put more fuel in the motor. You’ll lose gas mileage. You’ll smell the richness. Bet

    Not exactly true.

Larger tank will increase overall weight of the truck; negligible weight gain of a larger empty tank itself. Larger tank holds 10 more gallons of fuel + 6 pounds/ gal = 60 lbs of extra weight. The ECU controls how much fuel is sent to the engine based on load, fuel/ air mixture mapping (I.E. tuning), and fuel octane. The ECU doesn't know where the extra weight comes from. You could have extra passengers, cargo, towing/ hauling a load, etc., but it will only send the necessary amount of fuel (based on throttle input/ power demand) which WILL NOT lead to a fuel-rich state. More fuel will be sent to the engine due to increased weight and power required to move that extra weight resulting in loss of gas mileage, but also negligible solely based on a 60-70 lb weight increase of a larger fuel tank (when full).

Will upgrading your tank void your warranty? Only on the tank itself if using an aftermarket tank. Toyota may void other parts of the warranty IF they can prove the upgraded fuel tank or workmanship caused damage to whatever fails in the future.

I upgraded the fuel tank on my 2nd gen from the OEM 28 gal tank to the TF 46 gal tank. The weight of the TF tank is significantly more than the OEM plastic one. I usually only fill up to half tank as I don't want to haul around an extra 138 lbs of fuel. I will completely fill the tank when I'm towing my boat long distances so I have more control of the frequency of my stops/ fill-ups. I've never smelled fuel richness in over a year since the upgrade during normal driving or when towing. Having a larger fuel tank is a very nice option for me.

I spoke with transferflow and they don’t have immediate plans. That’s not to say they won’t have an option in the future.
