I just finished my installation, and all I can say is "Wow!". James provided me with the Hertz 170 speakers for all 4 doors, Infinity 7005A amp, speaker mounts, amp rack, and the connectors to make it "plug and play", as much as that is possible. I already had a ********* subwoofer with 10" speakers that I picked up off of Craigslist. I did not replace the head unit. I added sound deadener to the four doors and the back wall of the truck. Here are some thoughts from this project:

    1. There is no need to replace the head unit, unless you are looking for special features.
    2. Read the manual that comes with the amp. I missed one step with setting up the bypass to the subwoofer and the system came alive after I changed the setting.
    3. The sound is amazing!!!
    4. The ********* subwoofer is good but a real pain to install. You have to cut off some of the door trim plastic to make the seats functional. This isn't difficult but a bit unnerving at first. You also lose the hold down for the lug wrench stuff, so you have to find an alternative spot to store it.
    5. James at Tech 12V couldn't be a nicer guy and answers phone calls and texts when you get stuck, even on Saturdays! He is an amazing guy who knows how to provide great service.
    6. The Hertz K170 speakers are great. The most difficult thing to do was to attach the ring to the tweeter. This is done by mounting the ring from the back of the tweeter and using a little lube to make it easier. You only need to do this on the rear doors. The front tweeters mount in the sail panels.
    7. I think the sound deadener made the truck much quieter.
    8. Disconnect the three dash speakers. They don't add anything to the sound quality.
    9. Running the amp wire is a bit tough but doable. You must be a contortionist to get the wire run. Use a lubricant to run the wire through the rubber nipple hole that you cut.

Here are a few pics of the install:

Did you make your own amp rack base?

looks nice. I cut up the factory bracket and used it to re-attach to a plywood base. I may take it back out at some point and dress it up like this.

What did you use to convert the high level from the factory unit to low level (rca) for the amp?

I have not. They sound good though to me. I do need to minimize the gain on them though because I don't need to shake the truck!
