HOW TO GET TECHSTREAM TO WORK ON MY COMPUTER!?!?!

I have ABS error codes that I need to get more information about and would like to see if I can get the code reset. Started as a wheel speed sensor (which I replaced) then switched into another combination of lights. Getting tired of staring at the ABS BRAKE traction control and flashing VSC light lol.

I have one of those $20 Amazon Mini VCI's and tried multiple threads online for techstream. I've been messing with this for over a month now on and off. Nothing works. Just a sure-shot way (besides purchasing the dealer version) would be greatly appreciated right now.

The biggest problem people usually encounter is trying to run the pirated software on an incompatible OS. You usually have to use a machine running Windows 10 64 bit or Windows XP for the program to work.

I'm heading down this path, since I'm reaching the limits of the OBD2 diagnosis... I was consideting an Autel 2 way can bus, but that's a $700 piece of technology..... I'd rather go down the $20 cablenand software....

You didn't mention which version of TechStream you have, or what problem you're having. Are you just trying to install it or get the software running? Or do you have it running and it doesn't detect the truck? Or is it something completely different?

I don't have it yet myself, but the cable should be delivered today, and I have a TechStream v18 VM image that I plan on running on a laptop.

Also, just a warning - if you bought one of the Chinese Mini VCIs, you should know not to ever use the software and drivers that they send with the cable. Not just this particular cable, but if you EVER get a Panda disk, assume it's infected with malware and rootkits. If you are trying to use the TechStream software they sent with a cable, ditch it and just use the cable with an image downloaded from a more reputable source.

I may have TIS 18 around here and is straight forward to install. Just need the right connector and driver.

I have mine working on an old Vista Laptop, but definitely the older windows versions are easier to deal with and you cannot have a anti virus active since the pirated copies and drivers will throw red flags and get removed. Biggest thing is getting the driver's for the cable to work. Not all cables are created equal either, some have a later firmware than others.

Here is the link to TIS 18, not a pirated version actually. It installs like any normal software.

    http://exiled.ddns.net/downloads/TIS.zip

Password for the driver is Autokent

It needs the key for the ID which is different for every install / instance. When you give me the ID I will be able to give your corresponding keys as per bellow example.

    ID: F28C19925BF2D6639258869985A6A105
    Ver: 18.00.XXX

    NA: 6f31de8f45d501533ac774e4e6c9a31e50002403022158
    EU: c4926abeafaae2d4f65fb2cb5ef35e5650002403022158
    JP: 9971c5fc30b32100352402003123ba85f9f8f5cfcb27b5
    OT: d952155352ccfda7959436176c4410e050002403022158

There are also the drivers package for most of the mvci USB dongles. Is self explanatory. Disable antivirus when installing the drivers.

Does this version work in Win 10 or 11? I have an old copy that only works in Win7, so I need to keep an old laptop around.

I having been sftruggling to get a vm setup due to the virus fears and not wanting to compromise my computer . Sounds like this version is safe and want to try it. Do know if the driver packages out there are virus free. It would make sense that they stuck all the trojans in the tis file.

    thanks

    I use this version: https://mega.nz/file/fsEizJyC#aH_2a1hQnX6LpicDS1Bq-gEKVEU57cotd3_QesN2_M0

Which is found in this write up: https://forum.ih8mud.com/threads/how-to-techstream-in-5-minutes.1034923/

The key difference is this is a VM image and its for a Windows XP virtual machine that already has techstream installed with the correct drivers/etc. all ready to go. Since its a VM image its not actually interfacing directly with your main OS. You do need to enable devices (option in the VM manager) for the VM to see the OBD2 dongle.

I actually just used this today to turn off the seat belt chimes on my 2021 Tundra and 2022 4Runner. It connected to my 2007 FJ today but the FJ doesn't have that particular option.

do you know if that would run on win 7 VM/ virtualPC? i have windows 7 and have been building a vm in there. I vaguely remember that loading win xp in virtual pc was allowed.

Its a windows XP image/VM so can run on any machine essentially, you need to get Oracle VM or similar VM manager to run it.

Just get Oracle VM and then you just install the image from the other forum, takes less than 5 min, then run it. Ez.

I installed the oracle virtual box sw and that vm today. The tis loads up fine, but it is not seeing the mvci cable. It is jusy a lower cost one from Amazon. Wondering if i have an issue with that cable or if i need to be tweaking something in the virtual box sw. In thetis settings, i see four different vim options. The vm had the xhorse version setup. I tried all four but tis is not seeing the cable.

Yes there is a drop down option in the vm box to allow it to see devices you have to turn on.

Thanks. Installed this tonight and sent you the ID number. I keep getting GPFs with the virtual box approach. will be much cleaner if I can get it running outside of a VM as long as I don't get a virus. It seems that the driver setup program requires a passcode. Do You have that?

Thanks for your assistance with this.

Each time I try to attach the USB port in virtual box, I get a GPF (blue screen of death). It is showing me the FTDI USB port, I just cant seem to attach it to the VM without problems.
