Has anyone cleaned their throttle body themselves. Where did you find the instructions?

    1. Use only TB cleaner on TB and MAF cleaner on the MAF. CRC makes both.
    2. Remove air intake tube from TB
    3. Soak a rag with TB cleaner and rub inside of TB and behind throttle blade.
    4. Do NOT let throttle blade slam shut or scratch inside of TB
    5. Don’t spray TB cleaner directly on throttle blade shaft. The shaft is connected to position sensor and servo motor which can be damaged.

What @bfunke posted is pretty standard for just about all throttle body cleanings

Just be sure to be gentle with the butterfly valve. Don't open/close it fast.

You can jump to 9:00 where he starts the cleaning but as usual he's throws alot of knowledge out there.

The problem I see is gaining access to the 3rd gen throttle body. It is in the rear of the engine behind the intercooler assembly. It’s not easy for the vehicle owner

That sucks. I didn’t realize it was a pain to get too.

I did this today as the last part of my 60k preventative service for my 2020 along with a new PCV and radiator cap and spray cleaning the MAF. The MAF looked brand new with no visible buildup but I sprayed it off with MAF cleaner anyway since it was out. The throttle body is easy to get to, but a stool helps to get in and over it to clean it. It had little to no brown discoloration that looks like varnish you see in a lot of photos, but there was a surprisingly noticeable ridge of carbon buildup all the way around where the butterfly meets the housing. At first I thought it was part of the housing because it was so uniform. It was about 3/16 of an inch wide and you could feel it catch with your fingernail as you scraped over it's edges. It took a lot of rubbing with TBC to start to get anywhere. The cleaner worked better when I saturated a microfiber cloth and let it soak there a few minutes. I still ended up using a soft bristle toothbrush soaked in cleaner and then a final wipe with the cloth and cleaner. Looked brand new. I connected everything and fired it up. No lights or anything strange except it reved high at idle for about 1 minute. It seemed to relearn position quickly. I took it for a 20 minute test drive and all was well. It might all be in my head, but it does seem to run better. Seems more responsive and smoother. I think I will do it every 30k to make it a little easier to clean given how easy it is to access. MAF is definitely good for at least another 60K by the looks of things. I should have taken photos. Took me about 30 minutes to get it unbuttoned, cleaned and buttoned back up.

I’m looking for the 2022+ Tundras. I’ve been told it’s a pain to get too.
