I have A 06 Sequoia that I bought with 180,000 miles. At 200,000 miles I decided to replace the timing belt. I replaced it all. Water pump, Idler and tensioner. Everything that touched the belt. Ran great for about 10,000 miles. No problems. Then it jumped time 1 tooth on the Passenger side head. Put it back in time and ran fine for about 1,000 miles. Then it did it again so I replaced the belt and tensioner again. Been about A thousand miles and has now done it again. What am I missing or what should I check? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Not sure what your saying. If the belt jumped one tooth on the drivers side head, since the same belt is in mesh with the passengers side head, it would also be off by one tooth there would it not? How were you able to determine it jumped a tooth? Once the belt is run on the engine, you can no longer use the markings on the belt for reference. Only the crank dimple and cam gear marks are used.

Are you saying the crank dimple and passengers cam gear are in alignment, but the drivers side cam gear is off time by one tooth?

Are you using an OEM belt? Or at least Aisan who manufactures them for Toyota?

My mistake on the original post. I should have said passenger side. The crank and drivers side are lined up. The passenger side is retarded by one tooth. I don't know who made the first belt. The second one was Gates.

We've had at least 5-6 guys report problems with aftermarket timing belts in the past year.

if your running aftermarket belts its not uncommon to see this.. just buy an Aisin kit. Or just buy the toyota T-belt (i think its like 45 bucks)

a water pump failing can also cause this to happen or a failing tensioner.. check them both..

That’s what I just used. Remember to apply liquid gasket thoroughly to the water pump intake.... asin does not provide a rubber gasket like the 1aauto kit does.
