I need a new tire pressure gauge and Amazon has ruined me. I read the reviews and every single one of them seems like its junk, or inaccurate. Is there a forum approved tire pressure gauge that most seem to use? I was relying on the TPMS but sometimes it takes a long time to register when I recalibrate the TPMS.

    TIA

There are thousands of brands out there, but I still use this style.

Been using the same one for over 20 years and the readings match my TPMS.

That's what prompted this discussion. I have one of those. Set my front cold to 30 PSI, rear to 33. TPMS is reading 36 up front, 39 in the back. Maybe I just have a bad one.

For how cheap they are, I have multiple. Cross reference them and either figure out how much to add or which one is more accurate. Or since you have the TPMS you already have a reference point (assuming the TPMS is actually correct too). To each their own, personally for how cheap and my acceptable accuracy tolerance, having a bunch of $3 ones is better than a fancy one.

Funny story...I decided to buy new pressure gauges for each of our cars. I bought the stick type pictured above. Using one of them which was reading about the same pressure as an old one I had, I set the pressure in four of our cars. A week later, our 19 year old makes a New Years Eve road trip from San Antonio to Atlanta in our Civic. I told him the tires were aired up to 35 psi, there is a gauge in the console and a hand pump in the trunk. This Civic uses a monitoring system based off the anti-lock brake system and is notorious for throwing low air pressure warnings (doesn't identify which tire). Just outside of Atlanta after driving through a rain storm, he gets a low tire warning. The first tire he checks with that gauge is reading 30 PSI. Lucky to find it right away! So he pumps it up to 35 psi (probably should have went to 37, warm tires and all but whatever), resets the TPMS, and continues on his way. He checks it the next after his arrival and says all is good. Concerned I implore him to take it to a tire shop before his return trip to make sure all is well. He did and it was. He gets home and after some investigation I found the air gauge that I put in his car was reading 5 PSI lower than every other gauge I had. Trashed it. So it goes......

Bottom line, make sure you have a gauge you know is accurate to compare to any new gauge you might buy. I have 4 distinct styles of gauges and they all give four results +/- 1.5 lbs.

Well, I'm kind of embarrassed to admit this, but it turns out my vision is to blame. I'm almost 46, had 20/20 vision and up until recently, I noticed shit getting blurry. My far vision is blurry, and so is my close up. The sweet spot in between those is fine, but fine print shit in the sweet spot is difficult to read. I'm not ready to accept bifocals yet, mainly because I earn my living in front of a PC, and that vision is perfect. I went out just now with a flashlight and some reader glasses I borrowed from my wife and it turns out the cheap, made in China gauge I have is actually pretty accurate.
