Tire prices are insane. Just looking at 295/70/18 Toyo AT3's at $2100 mounted and balance out the door. Going from the 285's that I currently have to the 295's, the AT3 is the lightest at only 3 lbs heavier than my Ridge Grapplers.

This is the main reason I have decided to burn through the new rubber the dealer gave me prior to putting on other tires. Things are HIGH right now.

Yeah its crazy. I have 30K on them and still have some life left but they are loud as hell. It wouldn't be a big deal if I wasn't in the middle of a 24K roof install and then having to replace the AC after that.

    It's called inflation.

What, your income didn't go up to match it?

    It's designed that way.

I went through sticker shock when I got my five SCS F5's fitted with BFG KO2 35/12.5 18s. :(

Just looked up my receipt...$2,561.7 for 5 tires and mounting without certs for refund replacement @Discount Tires. Don't think I got a discount.

I get it! I just did a full renovation on my divorce condo and then built that Ram that was totaled. So it is slow and practical with this Tundra as I recover from the nonsense. Then add in current pricing... its nuts. I do not like my wheels and the tires... they work for now.. but I will wear those treads down a bit before ordering their replacement.

Discount shows $286-304 per tire before installation costs.

I agree - tire prices have gotten ridiculous. I think the first new set of tires I put on the tundra were $220 each with mount and balance and lifetime rotations/balance. And they knocked $10 or $20 off each tire cuz I had been buying tires there forever. Now, the exact same tire is well over $300 a pop plus install. Bleh. I really don't like running tread down to nothin' but my current tires may get pushed a little further than normal.

Maybe I shouldn't bring up my grocery bill or fuel bill either... Eeek.

Everything is insane today in terms of prices. If people think prices will drop, think again. Once there, you never go back. Up in Canada some grocery stores were found colluding on prices to gouge the customers. They get fined and the Federal Government collects. Everyone wins except the working guy. My one rant per day is now done.

There is a rumor that there will be a set of tires for sale used but still usable. I got raped on my new tires but this is what I wanted so had to pay the price. Sad we live in these times

I've been eyeing 285/70/17 KO2's on Marketplace. I think those come on new Jeeps and a lot of people take them off right away to install bigger tires then they turn around and list them on Marketplace. So you can sometimes find a set of basically new tires for $900-1000. It's tempting. I just like the service that Discount Tire gives me so it's hard to want to take a chance on used tires.

Don’t feel too bad, I’m about to write a check for $42K for a roof, gutters, and gutter guards.

Would have been $45K but the roofing material manufacturer stood behind their product despite it getting hit with baseball sized hail and is covering my insurance deductible.

    Tire prices are pretty disgusting.

If you have insurance, why are you having to cut a check? $42k would be devastating for me.

Did that in 2016...total beatdown and amazing how many subcontractors they brought in to do the work on the house.

    @FirstGenVol,

Well I could have taken the insurance payment and spent it on hookers and blow. Instead I’m replacing a roof.

Last year when I did it the first time the upgrade to a class 4 F-Wave roof in Castlewood Brown synthetic wood shakes came out of my own pocket. So did the high end gutter guards to keep pine needles out. That $33K out of pocket was indeed a kick in the sack, but not insurmountable.

We’re very fortunate, I have a good job, my wife’s income is pretty much just gravy. We live well below our means, so we can invest for retirement and build an emergency fund. That way emergencies are no longer emergencies if it’s something like appliances, vehicle repairs, or property repairs.

If you’re looking for a job most of the big Class 1 RR’s are hiring. Been pretty good to me for the most part.

Yeah baseball sized hail will strait up fuck shit up.

I had gutters that got caved in, had to bend them back open!

Fortunately we didn’t lose any windows because the roof is fully hipped and the overhangs are generous. Our siding is concrete Hardy Board and we have some stacked stone wainscoting, so that stuff is pretty resistant to hail.

You’ll save a giant pile of money if you stick to a size closer to stock. Not only in tire cost, but fuel. Plus the truck will probably drive better 95% of the time too.

You make a compelling argument. I could just cover myself with a hooker when it rains, and do c-c-c-cocaine until I don’t care that it’s raining.

Hooker: “I’ll do anything you want for $100.”

Me: *looks to the west at oncoming thunderstorms*

    “OK, sounds like a deal.”

Hooker: “What do you want me to do daddy?”

Me: “Stand right here and hold this umbrella for the next 3-4 hours.”

In addition to getting absolutely SCREWED on the tire price.... you have environmental fees, shop supply fees and disposal fees, all of which are also taxed.

Tires are produced and shipped via petroleum products. That statement alone should paint the picture.

Prices will NEVER drop once they are raised. You've got that absolutely right. Things are the cheapest they will ever be right now and that goes for taxes too.

Have a 2020 Pro …thinking about the Nitto Grappler, will the 285’s rub much. I want to keep the stock Pro wheels but looking for a bit more beef. The guys a discount tire are not helping much . If it’s a small trim of the mud flap I am fine …thoughts ? Thanks John

Jtspro, appreciate the detail as I am running the sock pro wheel. Perhaps I should just stay with the factory spec. Thanks John in Denver
