Starting to consider a tonneau cover for my Tundra. I do occasionally need to be able to remove it and haul stuff taller than the bed sides back there, but not all that often. Would also like to still be able to tie stuff in up high within the bed, such as gas cans. That I do fairly often. When I say 'up high', I just mean as gas can for example I tie to cleats on the bed rails so it can't tip over, rather than tying low to one of those corner hooks in the bed.

I'm really starting from scratch here, exploring all options. Don't know anything about the options out there yet.

There’s going to be a ton of options for you out there. Your going to need to decide kinda early on how you want bed setup to be. Meaning some covers will work with a rack system or not. Folding and retractable covers leak at some point. How secure do you want the bed area to be? Welcome to the world of owning a Tundra, there’s a huge aftermarket of accessories for them.

So in doing some reading, I can add some more criteria.

I have no need to be able to load weight on top of the cover. My top priority is just to keep things dry and move some stuff that I store in the cab to the bed to free up cab space. I wouldn't keep anything too expensive back there unattended. Don't want things stolen, but I think any cover solid enough that it could act as much of an obstacle to a determined thief might be a little too heavy, expensive, and difficult to remove for my situation.

Seems like the TruXedo covers are popular and have a good reputation. Among their models, the Deuce and Lo Pro interest me the most. The Lo Pro is simpler and therefore I'm guessing more problem-free? The Deuce's ability to open from the front too is a really nice perk though. I suppose one downside to that is it provides a potential thief with access to the bed without having to cut the cover? I think with the Lo Pro they'd have to cut the cover or drop the tailgate?

I think the stake pockets are still usable with both of these? Can anyone tell me how these work with the deck rail system? Would the cover come with those drop brackets to lower the deck rails or something?

I’ve had the Truxedo Sentry since Aug. and really like it. My main priorities were:
    - rollback style for maximum bed use and rear window visibility when rolled
    - no movement at high speeds, hence the security tonneau style - heavy metal slats
    - low profile and full use of deck rails

And it checks all those boxes well.

Two “cons” in my experience so far is that with the full-rear window rolled down you can hear a faint squeaky noise from tonneau movement above ~40 mph, and it occasionally takes a directional adjustment when rolling it closed to get it to latch shut on both sides - that could be human error on my part.

Have you found the diamondback to actually keep the weather out?

Yes, Sir. I've had mine in some heavy downpours and at highway speeds with no leaks. The rubber seals are very good in my opinion. The Diamondback has 3/8" steel rods that provide the lock security. When installing the Diamondback, I found that applying a little weight to the top side of the hinged compartment lids will keep the seals making good contact with the bed caps/tail gate, etc., when adjusting the closing pressure. Hope that makes sense.

I've got a Truxedo Pro X15. I got it because of it's low profile and material. It's similar to a convertible top. I wanted a roll up to give me full access to the bed when needed. It does leak a little at the corners but things stay dry because the water goes under the bed mat. Good luck on your search!

That all makes sense. on my 2008 Tundra, bought in June 2008 and sold Nov 2022, I have had 2 covers each lasting about 5 years or so. Retrax and then an Undercover flip. Both were somewhat waterproof. As they aged they got worse.

Now I'm ready for the DB SE, smooth with cleats. Looks like they are about 14 days out for delivery. The 4" crossover tray is likely going to be in my cart too.

They are 11-14 days for delivery right now, I'm in no rush and thought I might wait and see if they happen to do any kind of Black Friday deals.

Thanks for the replies guys. I ended up ordering a TruXedo Deuce.

This will be my first tonneau cover (on any truck).
