So my wife and I took a road trip out to California to visit the family. Since I am such a numbers nerd, I made a little chart to show all the fuel numbers.

    mileage.jpg

We drove about 2900 miles and averaged about 13.5 mpg. But yikes! Over $900 in fuel! As soon as you cross over into CA from AZ, the cost in fuel goes up about $1.20 a gallon. We knew the fuel cost would be high, but we wanted to take the dog and all the xmas gifts for the family.

It is interesting to note that the displayed mpg is fairly close to the actual mpg. While there was some fluctuation on some tanks of gas, over the course of the trip, they were very close.

Overall, it was a great trip. No incidents, no tickets, and the weather was really good (except for a little rain in Tuscon on the way back). It is interesting how varied the speed limits are across the states. Throughout most of Texas, the speed limit is 80 so you can get away with 85-90. In AZ and NM, the speed limits were generally around 75 and in CA, it dropped to 65 and, in some stretches, 55. We did see many LEO's on the road (mostly in AZ and NM, but none in TX) and I know they were monitoring speed. I knew that I was going faster than the speed limit, but clearly not fast enough for them to pull me over. I am curious were that threshold is. 10 mph over? 15 mph over?

My dog is always excited to go for a ride in the truck. However, near the end of this trip, she was getting so tired of it. At our final rest stop, she refused to get back in the truck. She kept crawling under it to hide. I eventually had to pick her up and put her in the truck. She is such a character. Fortunately, for most of the trip, she just laid down on the back seat and slept. She never complained... good dog :)

Did the same trip but in our 2021 sienna instead of the pig. AVG 31.7mpg - cruise was set at 82-85. I saw a few tundras and all I could think about was the gas guzzling as they flew by me at 90mph. :eek2:
