I had a young sales rep that sold me my truck,
tell me he got a new 2022 tundra also.
He said Toyota has a built in governor to limit max speed around 110
HE had the governor removed (not sure if this is electronically)

He claimed he got his Tundra up to 140 mph

Anyone have any knowledge of a governor limiting top speed is on the new Tundra?

I can tell you the 2.5 gen is limited. Think it was 105MPH. Im sure the 2022 is limited too.

I know on the 2.5 gen you can remove that limit with a programmer like bullydog

Not sure I’d want to go 140 in a pickup. Lots of weight to try to stop, plus you have to wonder how many gallons per mile he gets at that speed.... I would like to watch him go from a safe distance!

All modern vehicles are governed. Now days they are governed to the tires speed capability. For example, a buddy of mine has a 6.2L Trail Boss that is governed at 98 because of the factory off-road tire. Idk about the new Tundra but I’ve been over 100, not sure of exact but is was under 110.

Car and driver say 106 on the 2022. Limit due to tires and driveshafts.

yeah, there is a governor on the 2-2.5 gens. I would suspect that the 3rd gens have them also. I thought i heard it was set at about 110? however, with the dap tune, the governor is removed and Dustin (from dap tune) said he had his 2nd gen up to 135-140. i bet the 3rd gens could do the same.

It's insane how slow these gen 3 Tundras are. I have been asking for a 9 second Tundra for years, but the idiot Toyota engineers just don't listen!!

It's a truck. Sounds like you need to buy a sports car or better yet, a drag car.

At high speed, I would be afraid that a turbo would explode, the awkwardly long hood would fly off, and the truck would burn to the ground. I really think Toyota missed the mark with the new Tundra! You would probably do good to get that 3.5 over 60 MPH without causing some sort of catastrophe!!! Not only that, you would have to deal with the wind noise!!!!!

I heard Toyota really locked down the ECUs so I don’t believe the governor can be removed or modified… you could trick it I guess but it’ll probably drop the prop shaft. They put a catch for the prop shaft on the underbody so it won’t launch the truck into the air when it does drop.

From what I have seen on Facebook, the prop shaft catches are failing at an alarming rate. SMH at Toyota. I personally believe this new "truck" will be the downfall of Toyota.

The downfall of Toyota will be subsciption services and charging ~$400 for an accessory to access a bed with the tailgate down. And 3 years from now, they're probably gonna charge you a buck fifty every time you kick that thing down. But for another $500, they'll factory install a free one that's covered in chrome.

Idk, 106 in my tundra feels a lot slower than my car. Maybe cause it rides better.

The guy is full of shit, but a tundra could do 140 easy without a limiter.

And here I was this evening, clenching my butt cheeks in S1 and S2 4Hi, climbing and descending some gnarly bush roads that were a mix of goose-poo mud, ice, slush, and some fresher wet snow. Even had to throw the jewelry on for a bit after I spun out, all while looking for a co-worker’s pickup that was stolen last night.

Speed?? R U serious? Pfft. Slow is smooth. Smooth is fast.
