So I had been waiting on this kit as I have a 2005 access cab. I would check the TC website periodically to see if the the lbj were out for the later gen 1's. So, to my surprise, they're available!
My question, I'm terrified of the lower ball joint failure issue. Mine are OEM and about 14k miles on them so far. I just am constantly in butt pucker mode when I'm on the freewY or when I hit a pothole. Do y'all feel these uniball conversions are a safer bet? For $1k I feel like it's worth the price for a more secure option. What do y'all think? They say 30 to 50k miles before recommended replacement of the uniball. The price of about $200 for the replacement is not too bad.
Curious to hear what y'all think on the matter.

I think you're worrying over nothing. You only have 14K on OEM LBJs. They're as solid as you're going to get. If you said 114K, I would advise to replace. With OEM. I don't think the cost of admission and continual replacement every 30K is worth it unless you're constantly out beating the shit out of your truck off-road. An occasional pothole hit is going to be OK with OEM LBJs. But hey, if spending $1K gives you peace of mind, have at it.

There is just more maintenance with uni balls.

At 14k you SHOULD be fine as long as you're not beating the fuck outta your truck.

    +5.

I got almost 300,000 miles out of my originals and they still tested OK. But if I had been aware of the issues with them I would have replaced them 150,000 miles ago. Maybe sooner if it was used off-road a lot

Point being OEM are solid as a rock and you can ride comfortably for 100,000 miles or more

I appreciate y'alls feedback! I can be a bit obsessive and all those doggone videos of FGT's driving down the road with wheels falling off , have me in paranoia mode. To add to the situation, I bought these LBJ's on eBay- but before I get slammed- the vendor is one of the top rated JDM vendors and he's in Japan- his feedback is impeccable. When they arrived they had all the marking of having made the long journey from Japan. Had I to do it today, I would have purchased from the dealer or the Joker, at the time I saw his credentials and thought they were likely legit.

The World has always been rough but with social media and all the counterfeiting going on, it has become exponentialy so, to add to it; my entry into "old manhood" and you got a recipe for worry. Anyhoo, I appreciate y'all and I guess I need to adopt the attitude of- do all you can but at the end of the day, "it's gonna be what its gonna be".
