    Hey all,

Anyone have any luck with good touch up paint for WCP?

Picked up quite a while back some touch up paint from the dealer WCP code 089 and honestly think it’s a pretty poor match.

No sparkle at all and wondering if anyone has found one better.

Wife has had luck in the past with I believe it’s called Dr. Color chip (don’t quote me), lol, but even they have a disclaimer that says WCP is a 3 stage paint and this is obviously a single paint and hence also won’t be an exact match.

    Thanks in advance,
    David

With WCP being a pearl 3 stage paint, you won't find a "good" match in a touch up pen. If the touch up you have isn't satisfactory you may want to consider getting it professionally sprayed and blended.

Tailgate came down on an open hitch and chipped the paint a while back. Had a gentleman come to the house yesterday and the dent is gone.

He did a perfect job and so for that I’m very grateful!

Toyota touch up leaves much to be desired in this color. I’d have thought they would have had a better paint match with some sparkles in it…

If it weren't a 3 stage paint the match would be better. As the Dr. Color Chip sites stated, it won't be a great match. Just close enough to help with a small chip at 25+ feet away. Get much closer and you're going to see it.

Do you have any pics of the chip you are working with?

How bad is the damage? Seems like the way you explained might be a little more than a touch up pen would be able to handle. I used the Toyota one on my Tacoma when I had it for little rock chips and it did a decent job. Color was magnetic grey metallic. It wasn’t perfect but covered up to prevent rust. If it was anything bigger than a rock chip I’d take it to get it fixed properly.

Me too but was under the impression that the one was the clear coat.

Damage isn’t nearly that bad but to me it’s something I saw every day. Looks a ton better now that the dent is gone.

Put the one coat of touch-up but realize there is some shrinkage that’s common with the first coat.

Looks so much better than before but was wondering about this Dr Colorchip as this seems to be a product that can be multiple layers with a knocking down so to speak on each layer till it’s totally smooth at the end.

Would prefer that as opposed to trying to achieve something similar with wet sanding. No way in hell I’m trying that…lol

Even if the color don’t match I’d think it would be so much better having it perfectly level as opposed to now where I can feel the paint is not level.

    Thanks all,

Try the Scratches Happen touchup paint.

10x better than any other touchup paint I've used. The clear coat isn't worth getting but their primer & paint are great.

yea I was expecting it to be worse from the way it was described. The first one is always the hardest, but with how much these trucks cost now I don’t blame ya for wanting it perfect. Hopefully you can figure out a solution and get it looking somewhat decent so you don’t see it all the time!

If not it’s perfectly centered on the gate. Good spot for a sticker!
