I believe this is correct but just wanted to ask to verify.
20 CM SR5 4x4 towing package with large fuel tank.
    Model code: USK56L-PSTSKA
Total pay load capacity of 1270 lbs.

My question is this: 1270 lbs. minus passenger weight 720 lbs. (family of 5) = 550 lbs. of pay load remaining. Now I am suppose to find a RV that has equal to or less than 550 lbs. hitch weight even though I plan on using the WDH?

Good luck playing the numbers. Dont forget you can also drop spare tire and throw in trailer for more tongue cap.

Was in a golf cart this weekend that had a weight to payload capacity that make our trucks look like toys.

 WDH doesn't increase your vehicle capacity weight; it just distributes it uniformly to both axles. I see scales, computations, and compromise in your future.

At least you haven't bought the trailer yet. This question usually gets asked by someone with a new Tundra and a new trailer.

yeah... payload is the Tundra's Achille's heal. I had my truck weighed (with a full tank of gas) and I only have about 1100 pounds of payload left (5900 pounds total weight). Me, my wife, and my dog are about 450 pounds. That leaves me with about 650 pounds of tongue weight for a trailer.

Even with 550 pounds left, there are many travel trailers that you can tow, but you will have to go smaller... somewhere in the 17-23 foot range.

Check out Grand Design Imagine XLS. There are 5 trailers under a 500 pound tongue weight:
    https://granddesignrv.com/showroom/2021/travel-trailer/imagine-xls/floorplans

There is also the Jayco 264bh. That is a 26 footer that sleeps 8 and has a tongue weight of 475 pounds, but it doesn't have any slides and is low frills.
    https://www.jayco.com/products/travel-trailers/2021-jay-flight-slx-8/264bh/

    Good luck :)

Yup, that's correct. Remember that the weight of the WDH counts against your payload, too. May also want to weigh your truck to confirm that 1270. (Payload = GVWR - curb weight)

My previous 1 GEN was an '05 with the 4.7 V-8. Purchased it new back in the day. Also had a Jayco RV and it pulled just fine. I was just looking at the numbers before buying another one. I know the 2020 will pull what I looking for just fine. However, it does look like I would be 200-300 lbs. over the "payload".
    Enjoy your popcorn.

Check out the 2020 Jayco 24mbh, we just bought ours back in June and it is awesome! The Tundra pulls it with ease even without a Wdh.

If you hadn't bought the truck yet, you could gain a few pounds of gear and hitch weight by opting for a 2WD DC Tundra sans options, but like I said...compromise. For some trailer shopping ideas, take a look at the thread below. Keep in mind that in many cases, owners are winking at the tow/vehicle capacity ratings unless the text specifically indicates due diligence has been done as you are attempting:

Your trailer's tongue weight listed by manufacturers doesn't include your propane tanks and batteries either. That plus the WDH is going to take a bite out of your payload.

Before it gets asked in here, too: No, there is no way to increase your payload or towing on any vehicle. Not reasonably at least.

Up to you how much you are willing to push as far as breaching the payload on your truck.

Most trailers you see on the forum are over payload. Once all the gear is loaded and people are in your going to be over payload except for the smallest trailers. Some add 10ply tires and suspension aids that help. The weakness on the Tundra is the rear springs. None of the enhancements increase the payload number in the door jam. The truth is you could go over payload "slightly" and not have an issue but some choose to ignore the payload number and throw 10K trailers on the truck with 30 plus feet in length. Common sense must prevail when determaining what slightly over payload means.

Dave, you should post him up a pic of your rig. It's a great setup for you, your wife, and the pup? Plus, you have a 2WD DC, right?

That 550 also includes any luggage or anything else in the truck. Even a kids iPad will reduce the payload.

I'm towing a Coachman 204RD with my 2020 SX DC 4X4. The RV has a dry weight around 5.5K and a tongue of around 550lbs. I'm slightly over payload. The truck pulls the trailer effortlessly and brakes very well. Ive added Sumospring, trans cooler and a TRD sway bar and use a Equalizer WD hitch. The 204RD is a great couples RV with a full size queen bed that you can walk around and a full dinette in the rear. Washroom shower is smaller so if your of generous proportions you may have issues. Quality of the trailer is on par with most RV being not so good so expect to do some upgrades and improvements like most RVs.

    20200902_175036.jpg

Forgot to add. The RV only cost around 18K which is very reasonable for a 24' trailer.

yup... everything would have to go in the trailer rather than on the truck to keep the truck weight down.

Well. You are over payload and you should care. When you did all your upgrades, did you also upgrade your brakes, bearings, axles, differentials, etc?

Here's something to mull over. Lets say you pull a TT that has a weight of 7,000lbs dry. You load it up and it comes in at 8,000lbs and a tongue weight of 850lbs. The payload of your truck comes in at 1350lbs so with your passengers your able to meet the payload number so your all legal. The trailer is 27' long. Now lets take the same weight in a 5th wheel. Your 5th wheel weights the same 8,000lbs loaded but now has a pin weight of 1,400-1,500lbs. You are now over payload and not legal. You have added 10ply tires and air bags to help with the weight in the back. The 5th wheel has the same length of 27'. Towing the 5th wheel has better control over the weight and the actual overall length is shorter.

Some have mentioned that if your over payload that even though the truck can pull the weight you may have trouble stopping it. In the example I've given one is legal and the other is not but you are actually stopping the exact same weight.

Which of the following setups would you rather tow?
