So my wife wants to get a bigger camper trailer. Looking at something that is about 8300lbs. Anyone here towing that kind if weight? I know the truck is rated for 10,000 but wondering if it’s too much for it? My current camper trailer is about 4500.

I've trailered my tractor a few times so far. The JD and trailer push 9800 lbs. I don't have either an equalizer or anti sway hitch. It was ok on most of the trips. But, no snow or ice and I was able to take my time. I'm also picky about keeping the trailer brakes adjusted. The snowcat and trailer are about 5000 and I had no issues with control on some less than fun road conditions. If I were thinking about that size, I'd invest in a weekend rental of same or similar and see how it feels.

    Chandler, AZ, not anymore :(
I just pulled this from NorCal to Phoenix. Total combined weight 14,880. Pulled like a champ. Trailer weighs 6500 lbs dry. According to owner’s manual and door sticker, I’m good for 15,300 lbs combined

There are SOOO many factors into determining what our trucks can tow. 1st. Look in your owners manual and verify what your truck can tow and your cargo capacity based on your code that is in the drivers door jam. 2nd look on your door jam for a sticker that may state "due to accessories subtract this weight (some number). so you would subtract that weight from the number in your manual. That is the cargo weight and towing capacity you have to work with. I tow a KZ sportsman 27' @ 4500lbs empty and about 5700lbs loaded (no tanks full) bunk house. Tows great with no issues at all. I use a Hensley Cub Hitch and it is awesome for weight distribution and sway control. There are so many post's on this forum to determine what you can tow and what you should not tow. Just be smart about it, if you have to question the weight of the trailer, then you shouldn't tow it with our trucks. I am looking at a larger trailer also, it will be about 8K max tow. After all the math my 2020 Tundra sport DC can tow 9600lbs. I put nothing in the bed of the truck and it's just my wife and I camping. With the new trailer i already know for sure i will need to upgrade the rear suspension. I will probably just add air bags, this is what i did with my 2013 Tacoma and it worked out great towing my 27' TT. Good Luck with your decision and Happy Camping, stay safe.

We are also looking at getting an ATC enclosed 7.5 x 18 trailer. It will haul our 2 race bikes, 2 pit bikes and misc gear. The trailer itself (dry weight) is 2690. Add in bikes and gear that weigh approximately 1200 lbs. We found a Tundra we like that has a payload (according to door sticker) of 1270lbs. Will this truck work??? Will we be able to go down the freeway at 70 without trouble?

99% of the time you will be beyond the Tundra's payload rating way before you get to the max towing limit. I would bet money you will be way beyond payload with a trailer that heavy once you add in the gear, supplies, people, and pets. Read this thread and use your own judgement. https://www.tundras.com/threads/tow-ratings-guide-how-to-be-safe.39211/

I pull a Jayco 284BHS. With the water tank full, 3 passengers, luggage, food, propane, etc., I'm certain we're over our weight ratings on the truck. I run E-rated tires, front and rear swaybars, heavy duty rear shackles, and airbags. Truck does fine; only challenge is with the transmission temps making me nervous as the TC won't stay locked. Next truck will be a 1 ton. In the towing forum, you can see my longer thread on topic, with a cross-country tow.

Yes. Payload and towing capacity are different #'s. you're combined around 3890 which is less than half of what most Tundras are rated for.
