I need to tow my wife's 2007 Highlander about 200 miles home after it displayed brake problems. I went to the UHaul website and it does not recommend towing with the Tundra. Does anyone have any idea why this might be?

I wouldn't trust them to have the most accurate into. Google says a Highlander weighs around 4,000lbs so it seems doable. Are you brakes on the Tundra in decent shape?

If you have the 4.7 your capable of towing 7200lbs. So highlander (4000ish lbs) plus weight of U-Haul car trailer (2,200 lbs). You'll be close but should be ok.

I was pleasantly surprised how well my 2000 Tundra towed through the Appalachian mountains in West Virginia on I64 years ago. I admittedly dont know what my trailer weight was but it was fully loaded 18' trailer.

Just keep it out of overdrive for the trip to potentially avoid tranny issues.

Make sure you are loading your exact data into the app. I just rented a uhaul car carrier for a 300 mile tow in western Virginia. Uhaul is pretty strict about the configuration, if the computer says no the Uhaul agent wont rent the equipment. Lawyers and liability issues is probably to blame. If you can't do a car carrier you should be able to use their car dolly and tow it with two wheels on the ground.

Uhaul is denying you probably because of gross weight. They reject the Pilot but will allow an Accord. I can tell you the trailer is quite stout. Since they won't see what you are towing I'd say go for it. Just keep it below 60.

Last point. The renter will check your hitch and ball. Both need to show 6,500 or better.

Not so much in my experience they hardly even want to go with you outside to find the correct trailer anymore?

Clearly YMMV but I get what you are trying to say too.

I tow about 5800lb with no problem but I do have brakes on both axles. Tongue weight about 650lb.

Uhaul will rent you a trailer just put a vehicle that weighs less.

You will be fine. I see salvage auction cars all the time being towed toward Mexico. The tow vehicle usually isn't in much better shape than the salvage cars :eek2:

You might want to get a Bluetooth OBD2 adapter and the torque app to watch the transmission temp. I pushed my truck pretty hard up some hills last weekend with a good wind and a full bed of stuff and it was awesome to watch the trans temp. Both converter and pan temp stayed under 170* in my case. If I was towing it would have meant I'd be going slower and maybe temps would have gone up.

Thanks everyone. I appreciate your inputs. We will have our adventure in a week. Based on what you all have said, we don't expect any problems. Will go 50-55 and should be fine. Take care
