Howdy good people in Tundra land. Bought new in 2016 I've towed my trailer with great success. This is a extended cab with a smartcap. With 900lbs on the ball + me + smartcap I'm left with about 500lbs of cargo that I can carry....if I follow the door sticker. Let's not quibble, tjhat's what the sticker says and yeah I know Toyota underpromises and overdelivers, I agree 100%. GREAT truck.

All that said to setup the question. My truck will have 150K this summer when I plan a 6K trip into some remote places. I'm pretty sure my truck is fine for that however I've got $$ saved for a new truck and have done some shopping.

What I'm finding is that both the (Platinum) hybrid and non-hybrid have less cargo ability (see above) than my 2016 ext. cab. Did I mention I really want a crew cab?

What's a brother to do? Would love to hear actual owners who are towing with the new trucks and hear their numbers (on the ball and in the bed).

PS I unkin' hate the idea of not owning a Toyota, they are that good.

SR and SR5 usually have greater capabilities in payload. I don’t have a 24/25, but my 22 CCSR5 tows our 26’ 4200lbs Jayco with ease. I am married so if you have camped with a woman you know we bring everything in the world and then don’t use it, but I am sure we are probably over payload occasionally (I put generator, firewood, cooler, tools, etc. in the bed) but it does just fine. I do get a bit of sag, which hasn’t bothered me too much, and hasn’t been an issue, but I have thought about bags someday. Coils don’t seem to carry the weight like leafs. Some of the fancier models have auto leveling which seems like a great idea.

These trucks pull hard and with ease, especially in the mountains.

Thanks 22whatwedo, yup my truck pulls GREAT and it has about 500 lbs I can put in the bed and these new CC jobs have even less they can carry in the bed...according to the sticker.
