Trying to decide between a set of 295/70 18 toyo mt’s or cooper discoverer stt pro’s. Can you guys add some pics of these or similar size on stock wheels? I just have bilstein 5100’s on top setting so not sure if one tire is better than the other

Toyo mt’s are kinda loud. Had them on my tacoma. Got louder the more they wore out. Run AT2 now and love them.

And the weight, the Toyo MT's are much heavier than the Coopers in the same size. More weight = less MPG's

The Toyo MT in 295/70/18 weights only 3 lbs more the the Cooper SST Pro MT in the same size. 72 lbs vs 69 lbs. Not much of a difference. Both great tires. Love my Cooper STT Pro's and ST Maxx's so a bit biased.

Thanks guys for the responses. I’m currently running Toyo AT’s and love them. Just looking for a bigger tire with the new wheels. I can’t decide if I like the look of the coopers, I just like the price 1000 vs 1400 for the Toyo’s. I was hoping someone had a set on a trd with stock rims but most not be to common to run the stocks

Haha we drive Tundras, I can’t be too concerned with MPG. Probably go from a whopping 13.5 avg to 10-11. If I started worrying about MPG, I’d go get me a Prius

I’ve tried two sets of Toyo’s MT’s one set in 2012 and one in 2017. I feel like today’s toyo mts are louder than they were 5-6 years ago. Maybe using different rubber or something. Switched to At2’s. I don’t think I’ll ever go back to a mt tire again. Maybe try their hybrid tire

I’m currently at about 52,000 miles on my Cooper ST Maxx and they are just now getting worn down to the point where I need to jump on the next buy 3 get 1 free event at Toyota. Never came close to that on any set of Toyos I have owned.

Toyo produces more tires in the US then cooper does.

I find it odd you are trying to shoot for an American company but drive a Toyota ;)

Here’s my buddy @831Tun when he was on stock wheels and STT Pro 295’s. But I believe he was on wheel spacers.

I’m not going to argue over which is better because I don’t know, but I will give my experience. I love the look of the STT PRO but my TOYOs held air better, were more quiet on the road, felt more solid, and I always felt balanced, whereas my STTs were much cheaper, smaller, and a lot less impressive in my opinion.

The TOYOs saw a great deal of off road usage but the STTs have rarely been off the pavement. Don’t know if my experience helps but it’s all I have outside of online reviews and others’ words on here

Have you also considered Toyo AT 2's? That's what I'm going to be putting on my truck soon. My view is they might give a better fuel economy and a little better ride and a little cheaper. Still a very aggressive thread. I have a different size and currently have Antares MT tires that I absolutely hate. Toyo has always treated me good.

I don't think you can go wrong with either of those tires, but I would probably go with the Coopers on that $400 price difference. I have run Mastercrafts (Cooper house brand) and been pretty pleased. I would say if you aren't 100% set for having a mud tire, take a look at the Toyo RT's, Nitto RG's, or Cooper ST Maxx. All three of those are awesome hybrid tires, still look good and aggressive, but ride better and quieter!

i'd strongly consider the AT2's and RT's...both are very capable off road

Also, don't forget Nitto and Toyo are the same company. Compounds are the same, but patterns differ. Nitto is their national brand (big box stores) while Toyos stay with local dealers.

It use to be toyos patterns were engineer developed while nittos were design developed

Not on stock rims but been happy with my STT Pro’s. Did puncture the side wall on my last wheeling trip. America’s Tire took care of me though. I think I was driving on it flat for a good while and the STT Pro’s stood up to the abuse. Kinda hard to tell it was flat while wheeling when you run at 19psi. Never had a flat with a tire without any air left. Now I know though lol
