My iphone 7 can't update the toyota app because it requires ios16 or higher, and therefore I can't get into the app. It's just an endless loop of the app telling me to update and the app store telling me I can't update. Any suggestions on how to bypass the update to keep using the app? Obviously I am not dropping several hundreds for a new iphone to use this app. TIA!

Dude, iPhone 7 was released in 2016. I think you are way past an upgrade. Step up with the times. It's unfortunate that technology advances so quickly on one hand, but it is a good convenience on the other.

For what, a new camera? It works perfectly fine for literally everything else.

Ok. Then keep it, and all the old apps. Nothing wrong with that. Just remember many apps require newer technology to update to latest version.
I'm one that tends to hang on to things & take care of them for a long time, but anymore (unfortunately) a phone is obsolete after 5 or 6 years.

can you see about reverting back to an older version of the Toyota App so that it works with your current phone?
that would keep you from updating your phone for no reason and following the cult pack of updating a phone because....well, just because.

The problem is the ones who make all this technology. They of course want everyone to upgrade constantly & buy more. Unfortunately we live in a disposable society. Certain things are required to keep up with technology, things are made to live a short lifespans you'll buy again or upgrade from necessity, then in the OP's case, if you try to hang on to old versions, it constantly wants you to update. It does suck.
I had to buy 2 new TV's when we finally got hooked up to high speed internet last year, (rural area). The old ones were not compatible. And they worked fine otherwise.

What about getting a different truck that doesn’t require the app?

I feel you OP. I have my wife's hand-me-down Samsung S8+ or something like that. It won't update on this old still working fine with a taped up but very cracked screen phone. I like the app and will finally break down and buy the cheapest phone I can find tomorrow so I can use it. Sometimes you get forced into new tech. For me that's most of the time except I am intrigued by electric trucks especially the new Dodge that was talked about last week. Crazy range on it even though I drive maybe 5 miles a day since I'm a retiree!

Newer/shorter tech cycles are inevitable. It’s not an investment. Developers enhance product features making them more cool but also include important security patches. There’s no reason to patch older versions so leaving very old versions of apps on your phone is a choice. You want to use an app integrated to your truck but reject tech.

    I’m confused

I like tech……I really do. But I might be the most technologically illiterate SOB out there. I use my phone to text, call and email. I have very few apps and virtually no social media presence. I love the convenience of apple carplay and mobility with streaming services when traveling but that’s about it.

I had to borrow my wife’s car (2024 rav4 hybrid) for a trip into the city and tried connecting to her head unit. I finally got it connected but it would not wirelessly display CarPlay. After about 15 minutes of fidgeting with it and enabling shit on my phone and restarting the phone and the head unit I finally gave up. Stopped at a store and bought a lightning usb cable and hooked it up via hard wire.

I also have an iPad mini that was perfect for travel. I could do everything on it - stream/download movies, text, email. It was the perfect size. But when I performed a software update all of my apps were useless. I didn’t have enough storage (and couldn’t create enough) to house the new iOS update and the apps wouldn’t allow me to access them without the newer software.

I would definitely still have an iPhone 6 if it was still supported….

That’s how it is these days. Old technology can’t keep up. I don’t know how it is with android. I phones typically need to be replaced every 5 years.

I upgrade every two years, I just got a iPhone 16 pro max for free. Had to sign a two year agreement but I dont care as I need a phone anyways.

Iphone 7 ,wow, that battery must have a max capacity of 25%, lol.

That’s how I am now. I went from 12 Pro to 14 Pro even though I didn’t need it and I went from that to the 16 Pro even though I didn’t need it. My bill always stays roughly the same (or sometimes goes down) and I’m always up to date.
